I'm looking for somewhere to store things like installers, sample libraries, Kontakt libraries that is cloud based so I can sync them to my devices as and when, particularly handy when I'm using my capacity-limited SSD on my laptop out and about.

I currently have iDrive as I signed up to a intro offer to 5TB space (also using to back up all my personal stuff too like photos, videos etc). However, their software is clunky and feels a bit ghetto and their upload speed is super slow.....even after it sometimes takes up to a few hours to "initialize" itself before starting the sync processes!

What can people recommend that is out there which is affordable, good upload and download speeds and has a polished feel? I know there's the likes of Dropbox, OneDrive etc, but I have bad experiences of uploading installers etc to these as they then often auto-delete and prevent you from being able to obtain them due to their assumption that the software is illegal in some way. The one good thing about iDrive is that you could choose your own encryption key and everything you uploaded is encrypted from everyone but you, meaning they will not know what the data is and therefore won't auto-delete anything etc.

Anyone got any good experiences or recommendations for me at all???

    Cheers in advance!

last time i checked prices were still too high.

the best option is to rent your own server at Hetzner and use it with https://owncloud.org
    you also might like https://www.multcloud.com/

in my bookmarks i also see this service to have the lowest prices for large capacities.

I have an office subscription so I'm with onedrive, which works awesome, especially in conjunction with the office suite across my android and windows devices.

come on, just buy some NAS (Synology DS918+ for ex.) and squeeze 4 8TB drives there, with 1-disk-fault-tolerance you get 24TB usable capacity and personal private cloud in-house :)

I would always suggest mega.nz. They have like 20E for 4TB program, excellent security if you don't share public links of your files.
Their desktop app is amazing for syncing.

For stuff like installers... you'll not reinstalling your stuff every day. Sample libraries and Kontakt libraries... are you swapping them daily? To be honest. Get a 4TB external HDD with a USB 3.0 enclosure. Multiple of these drives if you need. Have a drive with archived installers for when you need to reinstall and another drive for sample libraries and whatnot. When you need it, you often don't even need to copy them over to your interal SSD as you can run direct from the drive over USB 3.0. With a decent drive and enclosure you'll get ~140MB/s which is like 1/4 the speed of a budget SSD. Good enough for using a couple of libraries at a time straight from the drive without copying.

So... forget cloud. Cloud is great, until you need more storage. There's a reason so few options for 1TB+ storage exist. Just take that drive with you whenever you need it. I got my 3TB HGST as manufacturer refurbished for $65.

I also have Office 365 and OneDrive subscription, but OneDrive is one of those with a built-in virus checker and so will block re-downloading anything it thinks is 'dodgy'.

Hadn't considered Mega! How are they for upload speeds? And do they have a simple way to sync that isn't reliant on using a web browser uploader? Also, do they block the re-downloading of any files they think are 'dodgy' at all (I assume not being Mega)?

Speeds are throttling but i have low upload speed here anyway so i cant tell for sure at higher speeds.
They have a very good desktop sync app that automatically uploads everything's in a folder. This way you have the same folder in your computer and in your cloud without any more actions. I find myself use more the desktop app, its better than browser mode.
I had not problems with .exe but you can try yourself. They give 50GB for free.
+ You have top level of encryption and a nice encrypted messaging and video call service.

You could start with old pc(or even old servers, those can be really cheap in second hand shops), that has enough sata ports for disks, and add them more as you save money from the monthly paying. Own cloud would be the best option for reliability and maybe even speed, depending on your connection of course.
I´m now thinking of my own small cloud, since after 1.1.2019 my housing company has announced free 100M connection for all renters :)

If you really insist on having it in "the cloud" without carrying a physical disk with you, just grab an used Dell Poweredge. I got mine for $80. Add $65 for a 3TB drive. You've got 8 slots for disks. Expand as needed.

I'm yet to find any need for using NAS software as opposed to using Vienna Ensemble Pro + mounted FTP for accessing installers :)
