Hi, I have just noticed that while installing new versions of plugins, the installers don't replace the old ones. I have to delete old dlls and then new dlls are installed. Is that normal?

No, that doesn't sound normal to me. However, my normal protocol is that if I'm installing a newer updated version, I first uninstallthe old version, or if there is no uninstaller, manually delete the old version.

It could be that the newer version has renamed their *.dll file. This can happen when a major revision is released.

SYLENTH1 v2 had multiple releases of v2 by different groups and I remember that each release named the damn *.dll file a different name. It was a pain in the ass trying to recall an old project on a new PC! :snuffy::excl:

these are not viruses, these are packers, for executable files, and false identification of antiviruses

On VR sometimes yes on R2R No almost always it replace old version
On the other hand i got ALL my Vst,s in their own subfolder (well sometimes i can have several in one folder but thats rare) so i can find them easyer,
Oh and i almost never uninstall old versions as mostly those are patched dll and dont install other than maybe some preset GUI files and a manual in C:/program

R2R often states if uninstalling the older version is necessary. Just read the nfo, or txt file.

Thanks for your replies. The system doesn't notify any viruses while instaling R2R or unpacking VR. For example, I couldn't install last iZotope plugins from R2R or VR's TAL synths. So for test purposes, I deleted only 64-bit dlls and left old 32-bit in my VST folders. And the installer installed only new 64-bit dlls and didn't replace old 32-bit one. Oh! I haven't checked installing with administrator privileges. It is bloody strange anyway.

There's a rather long and informative NFO on all the new Izotope releases from R2R about how the protect system was changed. And a short to-do list on how to have a fresh start on life with Izotope
    "1. Uninstall ALL iZotope products
    2. Delete RegKey HKCU\Software\iZotope
    3. Done, let's start clean iZotope life and
Stay away from official installers. "

Yes, as for R2R I know. Anyway I tried to install R2R without uninstalling but dlls weren’t replaced. But why can’t VR dlls be replaced?

yeah the AVG Neshta remover cleaned everything, every .exe file. hundreds of them. thing is, i keep my r2r keygens zipped so the antivirus cant delete them. problem is, when i need to reinstall anything i use the keygen, bang, the neshta spreads again. not a big deal, i was panicking a little when i first experienced it. quite frustrating not being able to open explorer or any app. especially when you have no access to the internet in the studio... anyway, i won the fight, all systems go.
why would a cracker team plant a virus anyway? also, if they are false positives, why do they destroy the exe files on a pc? please answer this very question.

Which R2R keygens have this virus? Surely you know which ones...
I have installed the majority of R2R stuff ever released, as I am a horder...USED TO BE a horder.
Trying to make music is a hobby, but collecting and installing cracked audio software was my life!
Since the late 90's i have installed R2R cracked and NEVER had a virus problem.Yes, a few false positives but never a virus. Most of this time i am only using MS default antivirus and a little firewall manager.
Well, I used to get everything from usenet alt.binaries.sounds.utilities (hats off the Captain Salvo these days for keeping it alive) and NEVER downloaded ANYTHING from torrentz, and only began to use this site a couple of years ago..
So, maybe you do get a virus from a R2R release that is not original?
But anyway, WHICH R2R releases contain a virus?

I always uninstall old versions as long as the update is the full program.
It keeps things clean and I never had a problem with an uninstaller doing anything bad except ...
recently with a Yamaha Vocaloid (5.0.1.1) uninstall that removed a bunch of other VSTs. (That package was removed from sister site, of course).
NAUGHTY UNINSTALLER - HAHAHA luckily I had a backup from right before, as i always DO have, and everyone SHOULD have, before installing anything they have not installed & uninstalled once already!
But it is nice to know you only need the one newer package, too.
I only have a few that I installed an older package first, and that's because they have a load of presets included.
For those I just saved the presets folder and then uninstalled the older version and installed the newer one.
Many times since long ago I found the vst placed in a subfolder when on an earlier version was not, so I ended up with 2 if i did not uninstall the older, or forgot to delete it manually.
Anyway, i vote to uninstall old version first!

VR releases are more cumbersome for ex FXpansions is completely ruined if you ever install one by VR.
Except lately they are doing great with waves and steinberg . R2R run great you can use sandboxie for keygens . I beleive R2R is Crossing AIR in greatness except they still need to do justice cubase deserve.

Sometimes it depends on your system which Windows you're using and which plugin.
    I'm with LTSC 1809

For me: it's weird R2R's Reveal Sound Spire v1.5.1 hangs/crashes all of my DAWs VR's release works perfectly.
TBpro Audio bundle always updates from VR never had a problem.
Same thing with Waves v11 with VR patch everything works flawlessly with R2R release sometimes I have "Waves plugin stuck" for example I try to load "VEQ4" from R2R I can see the plugin but when I try to insert nothing happens but VR's version always works.

I mostly agree. Some companies work better with either R2R or VR.
I tend to use R2R first, but for the next products VR works better for me (off the top of my head and knowing some stuff only is released by one of the two):
    - Helix Native. Not happening to all, but R2R gives me that engine connect error. Not only that, R2R releases doesn't say any advantage over VR's - other groups lol - which they do and with reason when there are
    - Toontrack stuff. Not even an argument here
    - Blue Cat. The same
    - Ample Sound. Same

But for some I strongly recommend R2R (or the allegedly "mentored" by them RET)
    - iZtotope
    - Melodyne
    - Meldaproduction
    - Plugin Alliance
