And in the 00s and the 10s as an early adopter.
I'm not quite sure if I remember right, do you? Was it around 10 Megabyte per second we reached with a SCSI hard drive and thought we're the kings?
I'm quite sure that if I bought all that stuff two years later as I did, I could buy a Porsche from what I would have saved.:suicide:

    • Fast SCSI: Uses an 8-bit bus, but doubles the clock rate to support data transfer speeds of 10 MBps.
    • Fast Wide SCSI: Uses a 16-bit bus and supports data transfer speeds of 20 MBps.
    • Ultra SCSI: Uses an 8-bit bus, supports data rates of 20 MBps. Back Then
    • SCSI-3: Uses a 16-bit bus, supports data rates of 40 MBps. Also called Ultra Wide SCSI.
    • Ultra2 SCSI: Uses an 8-bit bus, supports data transfer speeds of 40 MBps.
    • Wide Ultra2 SCSI: Uses a 16-bit bus, supports data transfer speeds of 80 MBps.
    • Ultra3 SCSI: Uses a 16-bit bus, supports data transfer rates of 160 MBps. Also known as Ultra-160.
    • Ultra-320 SCSI: Uses a 16-bit bus, supports data transfer speeds of 320 MBps.
    • Ultra-640 SCSI: Uses a 16-bit bus, supports data transfer speeds of 640 MBps.

    OMG
It's way cheaper to buy an old box with winXP for ~$20 and a used SCSI adapter for $30 on ebay just for SCSI conversion.

I don't remember scsi cables being THAT expensive, and I used them from 91 or so... they weren't CHEAP (~the cost of say a thunderbolt cable), and they weren't disposable like usb etc... christ... all this scsi talk is giving me ptsd! :)

You are right. I forgot that I payed in German Marks (DM) back then, not Euro (since 2002). So a 2m SCSI cable was around 100 DM, that was $50 in the nineties.

Same goes for me. That wasn't fun at all. Normally looking backwards in time everything gets a pink shine, but not for SCSI. :suicide:
