So I was thinking about this the other day, as Ableton has Scale plugin which is a per track plugin that keeps your notes in scale, I'm sure other DAWs have something equivalent, but I then wondered, why have it per track? Why not have the whole song in scale with a universal setting? Does any DAW have this, and why does it seem to be a rarity? I have Cubase as well,which is the geek's daw, almost everything can be set or configured in it, but can't find anything like what I'm describing, but it might just be looking me in the face. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

I think in Ableton you could use a Max for Live device called Map and map all it's controls to individual Scale plugins on each channel and then control every scale plugin at once from the master channel

Oh I understand Modal interchange and whatnot, but I don't believe a majority of music uses it. I believe a small percentage. However, yes it's an imporant option to music but why wouldn't a DAW implement Universal scale as, again, an option, i. e. notes are forced to scale but chords are separate or something like? At least the option of a universal scale, I would think to be pretty helpful in many situations.

 

Logic Pro X has that function where you can set your session to a certain scale. It also allows the use of other scales or set your own. What I mean by other scales is eastern and whatever scales there are. It’s set to use Scl. Files.

 

Lol, well I won't be playing with Logic anytime soon, I'm a pc guy, nothing against it, I just do too much with Windows. How does Logic handle modal interchanges?
