I was wondering if anyone knows of a Windows OS VST that is able to automatically fit a sample to a specified tempo and retain the original key? In other words, Im looking for a VST capable of doing exactly what Ableton does to fit samples to a track on the beat.

 

Dunno what DAW you´re with, but in cubase simply open pool windows and tick samples for musical mode and done!

set channel stretch mode to "time stretch" it should now follow you BPM

 

I'm aware of those features and appreciate your input but I need a vst or stand alone appp. I want to be able to do it outside the DAW.

Every single stand alone sampler/sequencer available out there : Geist 1 & 2, MPC 2 (software), Machine....Etc. They also work in vst and the use of the sequencers is optional, you can just stick to their sampling features and play them in your daw sequencer/piano roll.

Thanks for your suggestion. Have you done it with Geist before? If you have, do you mind explaining how you go about it?

 

For what you wanna achieve in Geist 2 it should go like this : in the sample editor tab, "TS" section (time stretch), turn "active" on and then turn "track" on (TS tracks BPM). I think. I don't use that function much in Geist, but you'll find the right settings in no time.

Timestretch controls
The process of time-stretching allows the pitch of a sample to be changed without affecting its
length and vice-versa..
This is useful for working with full loops on a single pad, and also for general-purpose creative
sound design.
It is important to remember that timestretching almost always results in some artifacts, as it is a
very complex digital process which 'bends physics' to some extent. Toggling the
Fast
mode button
can minimize the artifacts, although these types of artifacts can often be desirable when used in a
creative context.
Timestretch power
This button activates or deactivates the timestretch function.
When the timestretch function is active, any changes to the pitch of the
sample – using the Tune and Fine controls, pitch graphs and engine/Master
pitch controls elsewhere in Geist2 – result in the length of the sample staying
the same.
Amount
This control adjusts the timestretch amount between a range of 10% to
400% of the original length. At the centre position (0%), the sample is played
back at its original speed.
Fast
By default, the Geist2 timestretch algorithm is optimized for drum sounds and other sounds with
hard, fast transients. Activating the
Fast
mode button enables a less CPU-heavy algorithm instead
which is designed for melodic material like synths or vocals. It's always worth experimenting with
both the default and Fast modes, as one may work better than the other for any particular
material.
Track
When the
Track
button is activated, the amount of timestretch is scaled accordingly when the
Geist2 tempo is changed
