    Hi! New to this forum...

To get right on the subject of the title, has anyone any longtime experience with Intermorphic's Noatikl and Mixtikl? ( intermorphic.com )

I remember a long time ago Algoart's SoftStep (not the foot controller!) and later their ArtWonk, which had their own way of "generating" music. I'd flow its output through some Absynth patch, it could be magical at times.

I tried Intermorphic's stuff, seemed ok, but didn't get the hang of it yet (and the x64 Trial is over... hoping for a "remedy" eventually, wink wink).
Anyone know of any tutorials & tips (apart from their forum)? Didn't see any video tuts covering their software.

I did listen to someone's use of it, sounded very gracious ( theartofjim.com/windswept ), but I can only get soulless stuff yet... Need to learn more and practice like anything else of course.

Anyone know about similar generative instruments, free or not?

    Try THIS PLAYLIST for starters.

And the "remedy" when the trial has expired is to buy the software. It's made by real people, with real lives and real families to support.

When I think it's worth it, or rather that we're compatible and I want to continue, I'll consider buying.

Right now, I'm not convinced (mainly in my own abilities with it), and I'll 'extend' the trial if I can.

Simply uninstalling/reinstalling works as a 'remedy' for now.

I liked the very first version (the one that Eno used, it was called Koan then) best. The devs went on to form Intermorphic. I think to make real music with it you have to invest the time and get to know the software very well. My casual attempts at generative were pathetic and boring, and sounded exactly like the sort of uninspired noodling musicians sometimes do while they're waiting for the rest of the band to arrive. But yes, generative art can also be very nice, e.g. Eno.

I'm tempted to give it another look, now.

I don't know much about these programs, but back in the 80' 90' when MIDI was getting the attention it deserves, there were a bunch of fantastic programs by Intelligent Music, like Jam Factory, Upbeat, M, Oval Tune in which the randomness was completely controlled by the player. Sadly, in the "loop age", these programs have been discontinued. Only M (now by cycling74 and only for mac), maybe the less interesting of the group, survives but you can take a look at it, and it's cheap.
