Softube releases Harmonics Analog Saturation Processor

Start a fire! Dynamic analog distortion in the box with Harmonics.

Guitars, vocals, drums, bass, even synths often need some extra grunt to push them over the edge. Harmonics offer five awesome-sounding analog distortion models that will allow you to find the sound you seek.

Harmonics – Distortion with quality sound

If you ever worked with distortion before, you know it can destroy dynamics and cause more problems than it solves. Too little and your sound doesn’t cut through and fill its space. Too much and you lose the light and shade, the attack and decay. Transients blend into tails, and detail and definition go out the window.

    Not so with Harmonics.

A revolutionary new approach to handling dynamics during the process of distorting the sound, Dynamic Transient Control, makes all the difference. The input signal is listened to and analysed by the plug-in, allowing the dynamics and detail to be preserved and enhanced even after heavy distortion is applied.

Add to that the fact that Harmonics has five totally different-sounding component-modelled distortion styles, high and low cut filters, a mix knob and more, and you end up with a very powerful secret weapon indeed.

    In Short:
    • Five genuinely different component-modelled distortion sounds
    • Revolutionary ‘Dynamic Transient Control’ technology
    • ‘Amount’ knob to control the amount of saturation
    • ‘Character’ knob controls tone or color of the distortion
    • High and low cut filters can be placed before or after distortion
    • Wet/dry blend knob for parallel processing
    • THD meter allows fine control of subtle saturation
    • All of the grunt, none of the drawbacks
    • Includes presets by Joe Chiccarelli and Howard Willing

Price: $149 ($99 intro offer until end of November)

when turn it on, i can hear more dynamics and harmonics, larger space from some famous hardware input and character of mic recording, worth to try, and waiting future updates, more demo tracks and video of processing the synth

Currently testing the demo out with U-he DIVA. So far it sounds great on bass and lead synths. The character and drive knobs give a lot of tonal control over the sound and the dry/wet makes it very easy to dial in the amount. Another winner from Softube imo :chilling:

    Interesting!
Do you mean *Decapitator (Soundtoys)? Yes, it's also lovely. But I like the "dynamics" parameter in this one.

Yep the one of Soundtoys, just by seeing the Gui. The dynamics parameter seems "maybe" useful …or not at all. I 've to try it. They may combine the saturator module with a kind of "transient designer"… Will see. Worth to try it anyway :)

But if this is the case, it doesn't add value to this plugin, 'cause you can always put a transient designer plugin before or after the fx process and get different results. Like the eq before or after a reverb, a comp, etc.

How I understand the process is:
    - They do a 1st pass with a transient analyser, store the shape and the positions.
    - Do a second one with the saturation.
    - And a 3rd one to reshape efficiently the final rendering with the stored data from the 1st pass. It's a smart idea.

So, no, you cannot mimic the process with a transient designer, because you won't get this transient print made during the 1st pass. If you try to shape your transients in post-process, it will be too late, you audio will be clipped, and it will be impossible to recover them efficiently, and if you do that in pre, it would be pretty useless as well, you will lose the modifications with the saturation pass.
