it has superslow workflow compared with for ex. Bitwig, I mention Bitwig because it has same modular concept as R has just without the visually rich interface (cables etc.), and Reason GUI is very sluggy on mac

u can find a topic about it here, https://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=511990

The mixer is impossibly small and dense to be useful.

For me it's a nice, music making program, i use it since, version 2, i like the way to do here, virtual rack with cables etc, now with vst i don't go out with rewire, i can stay in this music making software

    I had Reason from version 5. I upgraded to 7, 7.5 then to 9 and 9.5.
Cubase is my primary DAW. I only used Reason in Rewire mode for sound generation.

Here are my thoughts on Reason.

    • Wire cabling is a waste of time. Cool Idea being able to route everything everywhere, but not efficient enough for guys that want to bang out tracks.
    • It is very functional for both Midi and audio production.
    • The Mixer is small and hard to work with.
    • I never liked any of the built in synthesizers, Although the Cubase Synths suck ass too.
    • Reason is very resource heavy. Your computer CPU will hate you for using reason daily.
    • Rexfiles should not be the foundation of audio import. I have a 4 terabyte library of samples and loops. I don't have the time to convert every file I have to a Rexfile to satisfy reason......
    • midi editing in Reason sucks... You will find out once you start getting good at it...
    • Combinators and Dr.OctoRex are the best part of Reason.
Overall It is a good DAW, if it what you are looking for. Many people like Ableton Live. Personally I hate the whole rack concept on the lower part of the screen. It is very messy and disorganized. Also I Don't like the fact that you can not implement a 2nd of 3rd monitor.

Regardless, If you love the workflow of Reason the you will be Fine. Just watch-out of for sketchy Propellerhead updated to Reason. The update from 9.5 to 10 was just an updated factory library and a wavetable synth..... I refuse to update unless the company's improve the software...

    I hope this helps.
    Cheers.

yes it was Leak in many places but still I think it was great daw compare to 5 it's for sure.
that's true, that's why I move to this daw , long time ago in 5 you need to use all the cables , just to make simple sidechain it was a task
even then it was fun but still not like today it for sure

Reason has a limitation when it comes to vst parameter access. As far as i recall it can only access the first 128 parameter ?

I´ve been a legit owner since v1 to v5 but frankly: What has this "daw" to offer these days when you compair with nearly everything else on the marked?
    Just a few issues:
-They should have "invited" VST years ago
-They should have changed the GUI years ago
All I use Reason for these days is the privilege option to have a daily look at the boxes on the shelf ... and that´s it

I use for years the V4 and V5 popular on the WZ webs, in the meantime I switch to Cubase and finally to Studio One, about six months I buy the V10 exited to run again this graphically nice DAW... today I don't use anymore and I put in sale my license for transfer to anybody that like it.

    Thanks.

Reason is a fantastic invention and far more cleverly made than any other DAW I've tried. It encourages creativity like no other DAW. It's the only DAW that conceptually stands out from the rest. It's insanely CPU optimised. It has a million knobs, sliders and buttons. It is simply awesome and so fun to use.

As for the sequencer, I always see people complain about it, and I know/understand why. You haven't read the manual. It's not more complicated or less efficient than anything else, quite the opposite, it is more intuitive and precise than anything else I've tried.

So you think your DAW's sequencer, that you've been using for years and know inside-out, is more efficient than something you've never tried before?? No shit, bru :p Once you've read the manual, and I recommend reading it cover to cover (it's big but very well written and a pleasure to read), you'll be as efficient with Reason as with anything, obviously.

You can use Reason in ways even the devs haven't thought of because of the routing. Everything is compatible with everything.

Reason = 10/10, best DAW there is, and no other DAW gives you so much FUN.

Reason was good until somebody invented VSTi, and then we could use any DAW as a tape machine with virtual hardware.

I totally agree with you , this is my first daw I ever used , and I can tell you after this daw when I learning the basic stuff
    I jump to another daw's
for me it was like jumping from high pool to low pool.
only because of the first difficulty to over come .

this daw hard to beat .it's has so much meat , plus there is couple of the best vst and effects .

It should be a free update because it feels like every year they come out with something and I spend $125.00 for something that should've been free. I have 10.2 but I see no Plugins, only the one I installed -- could you point to the right direction, or do I gotta fork out a bill $125.00 their plugins.
With THAT said! Reason, to me, is the most realest sounding DAW out there; and I know what every I produce, will sound REAL!
Not only does it sounds REAL, but the operational GUI. is the exact setup as real HardWare too. I've read Reasons 5 menu 1000 plus pages and can tell YOU --- everything you need to Master is right at your fingertips.
