maybe someone can copy and paste some info from waves , i cant cause host

See the full range of Waves compression plugins.

..so we can talk on on that topic...

for me SSL bundle is the most used by me...the guy from https://www.youtube.com/user/mixbustv

has plenty hardware but cant live without ssl g channel for lowend.(mixing metal a lot)...whenever a g channel is not suitable for electronic music says deadmau...mainly cause of shelf filter in g channel i guess

sry for offtopic but them have also CLA....did anybody like NI dynamic processors ??

btw CLA could be the most software modeled unit out there i have feeling...EDIT could be cause it stands in every studio:deep_facepalm:

  11. Well with hardware it had bloody well better come after. If you hit the circuits too hot or too cold you won't get proper detection. With software it's almost certainly the same. I can only think of one instance where compression comes before pre-amping and that's the Manley Voxbox.

  12. As far as I'm aware the CLA in the waves products stands for Chris Lord Algae, who owned the selected extra special sauce hardware models they copied into softs and gave his favourite settings to. The proper name for a 76 type compressor is a Urie, the LA2A/3As are old time levellers. Generally, anything with anybody's name on the front from Waves is a sure fire run away from screaming product, with a possible exception of Andrew Schepps' stuff which is mostly useful.

Back in the day most small town studios had A compressor made in Germany out of used automobile parts and elastic bands, which you were allowed to touch only after a lifetime degaussing tape heads, making tea and putting up with everybody else's egos. If you can't master the Ren Comp, everything else is a waste of cash.

Yes, indeed, and the reason I posted it is that it doesn't matter who makes the plugin. What takes one to the finish line is the understanding of how compressors work. It doesn't matter that it is Waves making the article. The principles are sound and thorough. When that information is clear in one's head, then one chooses the compressor that makes their hearts content and go back to making music.

Well, it may be true; however, I wouldn't call Waves stuff garbage. It may not be one's favorite taste in sound or workflow, but they are a studio staple for some reason. Some might say it's just their longevity in the marketplace, same as Pro Tools, but genuine crap doesn't last the test of time. Besides, they keep adding new tools and plugins on a regular basis, and they have modded their pricing structure, so arguing that they sell $7000 bundles is now a oversight. If you want to go legit, all of their plugins get to cost $30 on a yearly basis. The fact is that that oftentimes it's not the plugin to blame, but the skill to use it. Plugin emulations are calibrated mathematically to behave like the real deal, so gain staging is fundamental in getting the best sound out of them. That leads me to the next point.

I used to embrace making A/B comparisons of plugins, especially when I first started using UAD plugins and wanted to see how they differed, but I got to realize that all plugins can do the job, and ABying them was a moot point. I tried to make comparisons on the same settings for each plugin and run the same source through them, but just like with hardware, each unit is different. Each plugin maker uses a different physical unit for modelling, and the result is that each plugin has a different soundprint. I use UAD LA2A for tracking bass, for example, because it sounds beautiful and it has 2ms latency on my Apollo unit, but when mixing, I often run out of juice with UAD plugins and I have to prioritize, so in mixing, I use CLA2A. It sounds great, too. You just have to learn how to tweak it for the best sound you want. However, I will try the Black Rooster plugin and share thoughts with you, and yeah, make one more comparison for good times sake. :mates:

I tried them once and wasn't happy with the results, but that must have been me not using them right.

Do you mean the Teletronix LA2A, the real hardware emulated? I guess you do. At almost $4000 dollars each channel, it's a good reason to emulate it. I am saving to but the poor man's choice, the Warm Audio WA-2A, but then software emulation is so good (and so widely accessible), that I guess it's not that necessary anymore. BTW, I love the Cakewalk LA2A that was given away some time back.

Copy it, paste into LibreOffice Writer, export as RTF, ODF, or PDF. Easy.
I guess the Windows version has the PDF export, too.

It absolutely matters if you basically steal someones content and advertise your products, including links to their products. Most people don't chose their plugins by sound but how they look and Waves knows that very well.
