That's why you usually don't knock off more than 1 to 2 dB when inserting it on the Master Bus at a high attack time. But but the breathing could be a desired effect when conpressing drums with it (even in parallel)

You know what really sucks about API2500, SSL Bus and a handful of other WAVES plugins? The AU Versions (mac) don't work in N. I. Maschine. It has been like this for years and nobody fixes this shit...

Thankfuly, Studio One has that cool “splitter” feature that allows built-in parallel processing or frequency splits. I split my main bus around 72 - 76 hz, then in effect, the SSL G Comp is no longer getting triggered so aggressively. Alternatively, Blue Cat’s MB-7 also facilitates this process in any DAW. Set up a simple two band split, sending material above the split point into the BUS Comp. easy breezy.

1176 style compressors are smasing/smear the sound , make everyhing sounding huge. but it's not punchy ,not even on the slowest attack setting. 2 different things. the clear winner here would be dc8c3 but it's not that fancy looking as the waves ones
