I'm very curious if anyone has gotten this Synth to run smoothly without it Crack'n out like a Drug-Addict coming down from a Meth binge. ;-)

Seriously, I so want to buy this synth, b/c they are running a sale again, I'm just not sure if I want to pull the trigger; when I tried the demo, it was causing major CPU spikes. I have two computers, an older 8-core Mac Pro with 32 GB ram and SSDs, Plus a relatively new i7 Win7 Pro PC with 16GB Ram and a SSD. I have no problem running multiple instances of Serum, Massive, Omnisphere, Kontakt and the dorky EastWest Play engine. Running all will barely makes a dent on my CPU usage. But, when I open only one instance of Avenger, everything starts cooking.

CPU levels in the 80 to 95% range... pop pop, crack crack, spike spike, on both computers. WTF! This happens on most of the bigger complex sounds. IDK, even if I had super-computer from F'n NASA, I just don't think I could ever get this synth to run smoothly. I think I'll wait and spend my money on a new MIDI interface to enable me to use my older hardware synths, i.e. Triton Extreme, Yes, I still own a Triton, I love it, at least I don't have to worry about CPU spikes and F'n iLOK.

I wonder if the reason why it is on sale all the time, if the Developers who code these synths actually take the time to do things properly, or do they rush and take shortcuts with their code to make a deadlines; so they can start selling. You hope and pray the Devs will release fast updates to fix the bugs, but does that really happen can you trust this Vengeance Sound company?

Also, I heard that these newer synths with 1080p resolution features are very hard on CPU. I believe it has something to do with the limitations of the C++ code, a popular VST coding language. What I read, if you enable the high resolution in graphics for a VST it cause's an exponential rate of CPU processing hell. I sorta recall it's flaw in the C code language. Wold love to hear if this is correct from someone who has experience in VST coding.

I think this VPS Avenger Synth has an amazing GUI interface and it's like Nexus on steroids, and very similar to UVI Falcon, has nice sound. But, I'm staying very far away from it. I also believe I can make better sounds in OnminSphere, Serum and Kontakt in project with over 30 tracks, CPU is very minimal.

Here's a video I found of a guy demoing some of the sounds, I'm laughing b/c he saying it will replace Serum and Nexus, Ya Right.

 

You might have a problem. I don't have at all any of the symptoms you have. I have an i7, 32 g mem, win 7 or 10 for the moment, and Avenger (I have the legit version, latest update) is one of my instruments amongs the sweetest on my CPU (doesn't matter which daw I run it in, or whether I use a "heavy" patch or a light one). A dream next to kontakt and it performs better than say Falcon (on "heavy" patches) or HALion 6 (also with big multi layered programs).

Maybe test a legit demo on your setup to see if it performs better with big patches ? Edit : My bad...I thought you tested only the cracked version....Can't explain why you have those cpu spikes then.... Never had any with this specific synth.

But again if you make better patches in Omnisphere or Serum (I don't use any of those 2, so I can't tell if they perform better or not on my setup) why go through the headache ?

Working smoothly here, I tried 20 instances on a current heavy project all went well using latest version as the test.

Tested on 1080p, Cubase 9.5

 

In the case that you use the integrated GPU of your processor, I recommend that you stop doing it, since Avenger uses a considerable graphic power to show the GUI.

I recommend you use a "decent" graphics card. I use a Radeon HD from 2013 and don't have problems


If you do not use the integrated GPU, but the problem persists, I recommend updating the drivers of your graphics card.

It's way more powerful than Nexus. I personally prefer to use it more than Serum.
No problems on a 2009 Mac Pro here either. It's one of there very few synths I've bought that i use on a regular basis. My Omnisphere box just props my PS4 games up

What kind of midi interface are you using with your Triton? I used one for the longest until I went Axiom and remember having some driver issues since the Triton runs midi via a hardware unit . Usually a driver update would fix it in my case.

 

Here 10 years old i7 at 3.7 Ghz, 12gb corsair ram , Win 7 x64 sp1, no problem with this synth ....

 

Props to Menorah, I totally forgot about the Graphics card variable and you are totally right, my Win7 i7 PC is using the integrated graphics, and my older Mac has a Nvidia GeForce 8800GT 512 MB, very out of date. This really makes since and explains a lot.

Talmi & vaiman: Thank you for the response, VPS avenger really has a quality sound, I admit it was the sound I heard from it that pulled me in. Plus I love the aspect of its complexity and after what I ready, I'm going to get it. Truth is: I recently bought UVI Falcon and and found it was real chore to do sampling in and was annoyed a lot into it and started to notice issues with my CPU and Falcon, specially when you try to run some of their complex sound libraries like Synth Anthology 2, but then again, this could be my setup and my lack of a decent graphics card.

Ever since Omnisphere 2.5 came out, it has hit home with me, due to the new features in integrating hardware synths and the advanced midi control. Yes, it stills have some quirks, but most of the sounds I make are really Pad and Ambient type of stuff or some kind cheesy acoustic corporate song, sold on site like Pond5. You would be surprised how well those cheesy songs sell. ;-) Truthfully, I find Omnisphere very useful in layering and automating some really far-out ambient stuff. Serum is just that, nice for importing interesting and crazy textured wave tables, which I use more for aggressive synth lead stuff, which rare theses days and feel bad b/c I find I don't uses it that much.

Rethinking, I half wonder if this CPU processing is from the DAW and not the synth, I use Logic Pro, and the Win7 PC has Vienna Ensemble Pro 6 server running, which gives me the ability to pipe in a network connection to my mac. I can then run a windows based VST like avenger, or whatever, so far the VEP6 has been a dream, but it has it's quirks. Starting to realize this is more of my setup than the Synth.

You know, you probly right, planning on getting a used MOTU express on eBay, heard they are really stable, currently Roland V-STUDIO 100, I like it, to me the midi seems to off, cuts out a lot. I'll take the time and look for the update. Thank you!

For the windows site(i don't wanna drive you in to nothing).if you have a relatively new PC, there is a chance that the grafik driver wddm scheduler(1.1 and older) is slowing down your machine?!i had the same quirks with an newer machine(win7) on the meldaproduction suite VST(they use the grafik site of your machine extensively).if you wanna investigate just open the run dialogue with "win+R" type in "dxdiag" and open the second tab in the upper row.on the right most window you see(if not just scroll a little down)the wddm scheduler version if it says 2.0 or 2.1 your lucky if not(less than 2.0)then maybe this is the issue you have?!but you don't have to upgrade that system just make another partition(a test partition)install win 10(i prefer 1709)install your daw and the vst´s that have the issue...and test it!

after that it is your choice to upgrade or not...but for me the win 10 scheduler if it is cpu or gpu wise is much more balanced than win 7.

Can some of you test the St Chambers Strings (in the instrument section) while pressing multiple keys on midi keyboard. What is the lowest overall latency settings you can go without clicks and pops playing real time? That shit almost demands overall latency 20 ms (Sample Rate 48, buffer size 512). No VST comes even close to demanding that high latency to function properly on my system

 

I got it down to 48k and buffer size 64 You need to check your system or reinstall it. This is not even my system. It is a laptop with an old i7 @2.10GHz.

Worst one i tried? The distinction belongs to Diva's "is it really analog"

 

Nothing wrong with my system. Omnisphere, Keyscape, Diva, Kontakt and so on works great with low latency. Did you try the specific sample I suggested? Cause some of the samples/presets in Avenger works pretty good on lower latency. Of course it can be a Windows 1903 issue, but strange that it only happens to Avenger.

Of course. I told you "I got IT down to 48>64. And it is an old laptop. In my system, a couple of days back it was the same thing.

 

Okay, probably some plugin issue with Windows 10 1903 update then

 

Try uninstalling Avenger. Clean up after uninstall and reinstall. That may cure the problem.

Tried it but no change. I just uninstalled it all. Something in my system did not like it.

 

Did you use something like regscan to clean up the registry totally of any trace? Did you remove content? I forgot which DAW you use. If you have done everything I suggested, ry uninstalling again, removing everything and then downloading and reisnstalling the DEMO from the developer's site. If problem continues, contact support. They will try to come up with a fix tailored to your problem. I had a similar issue with Console One,and in less than a week Softube had it solved with an update that covered every Windows 7 user.

i have also Problems with CPU spikes with Avenger
I´m on Bitwig 3.0.1. every note in the first Arp Preset of the Factory Library send CPU spikes
or in other Presets every time when i press a key CPU Spikes are always happend
I have reduce the Voices of a patch or turn OFF some Modules - nothing helps
anyone have an idea what it is ?

all my other Plugins run smoothe like Diva, Omnisphere....
on my i5-4570 16 GB Ram Win7 Ultimate SP1

 

You have to try the various suggestions because AFAIK it seems to be more of an individual system problem.

 

The CPU consumption and spikes are highly related to the used buffer size and voice count.
