This topic is about your thoughts on something, and I really would like to know your opinion, even if you have nothing to do with the remixing-scene

I recently took part in a Beatport Remix Competition, and in Remix Contests on Beatport it's usual that there's a time of 1-2 weeks where producers have to promote themselves in order to get votes... Now what I had to find out: The main reason why people vote are to get votes for themslves, sometjing like a I-Vote-Fore-You-If-Yoi-Give-Me-A-Vote-In-Return-System... And all comments for my remix are people asking me to vote for them because they voted for me, or they will vote for me if I vote for them.
And that makes me really sad!!! If would prefer to have no single vote BUT one comment with a real critic, something that would help me get better! Something serious! But I guess that's not how it works... Better vote for a bad remix to get a vote for your own... Hate that system

What do you guys thin about this?

1- The big difference on the perception of DJ skills between any average DJ and a superstar DJ is the amount of marketing that comes with each one.

2- The popularity of a club is inversely proportional to the fee they pay to the djs they book.

3- Previous point reaches its maximum value on Ibiza and Miami where automatically the dj fee equals to zero, they don’t even pay the flight nor hotel..!!!

4- On the case of Djs who does not invest insane amount of money on marketing, the amount of gigs they got is not directly proportional to their success nor talent, but inversely proportional to their DJ fee.

5- There are two kinds of big labels:

The ones that are big not because they know a lot about music, but because they know a lot about how to make money with “music”.
The ones that are big not because they release good music only , but because they release a lot of music.

6- If you see a DJ in a magazine cover , it does not mean he is the man of the moment, it means he is the customer of the moment.

7- Dj magazines won’t publish what is important or actual, they publish

News that come already redacted by the source (djs, manager, promoters etc).
News that come with a check to the name of the magazine.
News about the dj who has the best blowing skills.

8- The more civilized and modern is a country, the more corruption in the music business it has, so the less you should believe on what the media says, or what the radio plays.

9- The compilations including the words “Ibiza” or “Miami” in their title, are composed by tracks that have never and will never be played on Ibiza or Miami.

10- Artists who always say positive stuff does not mean they are in peace with the universe (who can be in peace with the amount of bullshit we have to deal with?), means they don’t tell you what is wrong cause they think is negative for their image.

Thanks for reading and before hating think about Mr Harry S truman said “I never did give anybody hell. I just told the truth and they thought it was hell.”

Yeah, you're right, and i also hate the ones that are based on facebook votes too, because there the one with more social friends wins(they will vote you even if they don't like your track{at least most of them}because they feel compelled in a way)and that is bulls**t to me,also the same s**t happens on soundcloud , even if you drop a sh**ty song people will give you positive feedback like "nice one,cool..." and stuff like that(rarely you get a good critical view that makes you see things you have missed or was not able to correct ) and what i really want to say is that people are too FUCKING NICE! or better yet KISSING ASSES but i see this everywhere man, even great musicins\djs drops a sh**ty track from time to time and they get good reviews from others, they practically self sustain themselves, you support me i support you and thats how they get through the day .
Just wanted to get that out of my system!

It's like entering Big Brother to gain friends and than get disappointed why they voted against you to win the grand prize. *yes*

You entered competition to win, your interest are voters and it's really optional do you want to criticize your opponents or go on which hunt for votes, it's stupid voting system for sure.

Next obvious thing that all people that are running competition is potential voters(they know about it in first place), you must spam social networks to gain some votes, so you are left on those who are your opponents, favor for favor system is fair concerning that you are OPPONENTS.

Choosing winner by people votes is lame and for sure it's all about popularity, rather than quality, you need fan base to get you going, really not so good voting system if you rely on quality of your work.

Don't feel sad, circumstances like this show the worts in people, it's like that and always will be because it's competition, everyone is there to win and they will do anything in their disposal to get the most of it by all means.

    I agree.

I have no desire to whore myself about for votes.

ever heard of Indaba (probably)? Some remix comps there have judges pick the winners.

    That's exactly what I miss!

    Really good point!

Just got in and only want to get out

    ---

It works a little bit different... These people look for ALL other remix comps that are open and spam there... It has nothing to do with fairness, they're just use people... They are liars!

I prefer to loose than taking part in this system of liars!

So I'm not the only one feeling like a cheap whore from the streets just used to have a quick ....

    Yeah, Indaba Music...
Prefer to look for Remix Comps which aren't hosted on such sites, prefer to take part in remix comps where the startes came up with a good and selfmade system, not a standardised system!
