I reckon that he used his celebrity power to coerce these women and manipulate them into his web of deceit. I don't feel any sympathy for him just because he is an aged man and held a certain status for so many years. I reckon that he got off very lightly. If he was not a celebrity then his sentence would have been a lot heavier. Justice favors people with wealth and status.

 

True dat. I think whatever sympathy or unease I feel is more from side-issues - the result of implications about our justice system, human behavior ... and our own reactions to all of this.
But improving our morals by airing our dirty linen isn't easy. Better that we all have to suffer through this stuff, and I have a hopeful feeling about an aspect of globalism and the internet in terms of moral debate. It is tricky, making the whole world a small town where everyone knows everyone else's business, with reputations, careers & even lives at risk in various ways, but "better" doesn't mean "easier".
I'm atheist, but value confession and repentance as much as the next guy. We'd better admit our flaws, if we hope to account for them.
If we deny them, we are doomed to remain as we are.

 

Cosby thought he was immune. You have a country where a self confessed murderer goes free . OJ served time on other stuff it's true. but getting away with murder is absurd. there is a a history of moneyed up people buying their way out of prison particularly in the US. if cosby has a conscience at all i reckon he should consider himself lucky to have received a shorter sentence. it's a miracle that most of his crimes where discarded with the statute of limitations. Yes, cosby will probably get paroled after a short sentence, then he will find a suitable residence that is off the map somewhere with a private golf course. and slowly fade out of history.

 

I don't think he'll get off that easy, even if he only spends six months in the pokey. This pretty much kicked open the floodgates for a series of civil suits that he'll be paying whatever money he has left on for the sad remainder of his life. He's also screwed on future residuals from now until Hell freezes over, since nobody would dare broadcast any TV show or movie he was ever even remotely associated with, carry any of his standup albums or books, and he's probably not going to be invited to any further speaking engagements or to perform standup. He's also being divorced.

 

Well that is a sentence in itself.
Once he is freed he will have to deal with the consequences of his actions in other ways.
A pariah of society is probably not a nice place to reside and his wealth will be dwindled probably depending on the individual civil lawsuits.

 

I'd like to point out that it is not the US that has a particular history of monied people buying their way out of prison, but a particular history of publicizing it. There is a lot of misperception that goes on about the US due to the fact that we air our dirty linen for the world to see.
If you look closer at most other countries you will see the same and usually worse.

 

The US is probably one of the most open countries that I know.
When I surf the web looking for some news I am always attracted to whats going down in America more than my own country (UK)
It's just a lot more interesting.
Most of my YouTube subscriptions are American and Canadian based.
The UK is just a pittance and totally under under the thumb of the European Union.
The US still have the 1st and 2nd Amendments for now and still retain certain freedoms.
Even if they didn't I would still be swayed to the American way of expression.

 

with all his fame and money he could have just paid professionals. Instead he made a choice to drug young women. He got caught. If any of us did this crap we would have gotten 30+ years.
