    1. ProQ has a linear phase EQ
    2. To simulate a room use impulse responses, there's thousands available online
    3. To simulate a speaker response just emulate the frequency response in ProQ
    4. Profiles are a combination of all the above, at a click distance

wtf do you mean with dynamic? frequency responses don't change

do you even know what dynamics means? LOL example 3 is slightly louder but that's 'cause he adjusted the gain manually. Dynamic is the same, just look at the waveform

    Resurrecting an old thread!

OK now i've got Waves Q-clone and Sonarworks 4 demo (time limited) installed on Mac.

Sonarworks 4 demo use an effing machine-id sent to the site to install, so i've already spent my only chance... My only possible trial is running out of time. There's an offline installer, but it requires a non-existent activation code, so i think a demo-offline-install (that would somehow allow a demo reset) is not possible.

For each headphone model, Sonarworks 4 demo has 2 different profiles, one is "zero latency" and another "linear phase" with added latency but better quality.

I'd like to create Waves Q-clone presets for all headphones. Someone talked about Fabfilter Pro-Q2, but AFAIK it's cloning system does not take in consideration PHASE. So i'm sticking with Waves Q-clone!

Do you have any better ideas?
    Thanks

I found a way to do this using Pro-Q 2 and the Sonarworks plugin. It didn't sound exactly the same as the Sonarworks plugin and setting, but it was really close, and free. Since then, I've changed over to Morphit by ToneBoosters and am even happier.

I would not recommend you to use waves q clone to create your correction curves. One of the big strength of dedicated correction software is that you can change the amount of correction you want to apply. With that in mind it is more useful to use an "adjustable matching" eq or a dedicated software.
I never use my correction software on 100% flat. I found a sweet spot I like for all of my headphones between none correction and the correction curves provided.

    Interesting thread.
My opinion.... first get your room acoustics as good as you can get them, learn the room and than maybe for the final bit get sonar works or as NeoLover suggested qClone on the master.
None of the above is also an option and just learn the room with the faults.

Do I need one stereo analog EQ that costs thousands or just use a limitless software eq at the fraction of the cost???
Its all about perception, what helps me work quicker and have a better frame of mind to complete projects is what counts.

I don't have Sonarworks but am considering it.

Streaky's point of view.... a very experienced Mastering engineer (a tad clickbaitey):

LeviD: my headphones sound very differently using Morphit or Sonarworks! Morphit seems too bright and too much processed in my case. Sonarworks 4 sounds more solid to me, but i'm experimenting. By the way I've never used Fab ProQ-2

TW: you're right, unfortunately Q-clone does not have a wet/dry control as Sonarworks... maybe i can just "mix in" Q-clone like a send instead of an insert somehow (inside some chaining plugin). But plugin latency issues could arise. I could "Q-clone" a 10% or 5% phase-inverted eq-curve-inverted version of each profile, so adding (subtracting) it directly in Q-clone can replace a dry/wet control.
Sonarworks has Tilt and a low shelf, i'll q-clone them as well.

twathead: my room is horrific so i must use headphones

I've q-cloned all the 155 headphones' profiles at 96 Khz (4 of them give me an error and can't be loaded)... my listening skills are poor but i have to test all this...

EDIT: i'm even speculating if putting out these calibration profiles would keep someone away from creating a "proper sister-site-version" of Sonarworks 4... what do you think about it?

My only headphones (Sennh HD 380 pro)
according to Sonarworks (orange) and Morphit (green)
    analyzed with Q-clone

very different graph and sound... i'm lost for now!

mmhh, i bought Sonarworks (299€), measured my bedroom, and with my Adam X5 & Adam sub 7
I now love to mix my music, because I can do mixing in near LINEAR terms!
after 20 jears "mixing in the dark" it´s very.....nice?!
and by the way, all music i hear now at home, is (very near) like the artist create it (in frequency terms)

(sry if my english isn´t fine )

In the headphone realm, good reviews for CanOpener too, a crossfeed / room monitoring emulation by GoodHertz... on GS it's said to be better than Isone and Waves NX as a mixing aid!

I'm doing some quick'n'dirty NULL tests in Logic Pro X. Nothing scientific, but for now i don't have the knowledge/tools to do better than this.

    LEFT CHANNEL: Sonarworks
RIGHT CHANNEL: Either Waves Q-clone, ProQ-2 or LPX Match EQ (cloned profile) > phase inverted
STEREO BUS > Collapsed to mono, silence would mean = perfect clone

Although there may be different plugin latencies, and other conditions one should take account of, confronting the cloned Linear Phase version Sonarworks profiles these are the results:
    1) Q-clone is VERY SILENT (best)
    2) LPX Match EQ is REASONABLY SILENT
    3) ProQ-2 is NOT VERY SILENT but the error is too big, the failed NULL must depend on phase/latency/buffer issues, or other conditions i don't know how to tame for now (or perhaphs it's its 24 bands limitation in eq cloning)...

The same test with zero-latency/minimal phase versions doesn't work for me.
So all i can say is that i have proof that Q-clone CAN do it's job in this test. I don't have proof that the others aren't doing the same or reasonably well, but i don't either have proof that they are as good as Q-clone. :dunno:

ProQ-2 "match eq" is limited by design to 24 bands. On the other side, it has more functions and a useful DRY/WET control.
