I'll open the floor with my first thought: ...oh god dammit :excl:

should be easier to deal with than a new mac where you to have to reauth so many plugs, but expect some random things still won't work.

  5. These days, I wait a longer and longer times before updating my Mac setups, for bugs to get addressed and know what the performance issues are. My upgrades were like: 10.0, 10.1, 10.2, 10.3, 10.4, 10.6, 10.11. These days, I don't care much about Apple's new APIs, and think their development roadmap is a mess. Their new APFS file system is somewhat Hackintosh-resistant, meaning that I try to not juggle multiple Mac installs on the same drive from now on. I will deal with 10.14 much later, once I need to to run Numerology, Max, or some other Mac software I'd rather not be without. Meanwhile, a lot of my work has moved to Linux, where support is better, and I have a lot more control over my system.

Still on Sierra here. That APFS business has me spooked but good, and I can still open all kinds of recent apps and plugs (for now), like PT, Digital Performer, Logic X, Kontakt and so on. I'll wait and see what the verdict is before jumping ahead.

Official release today. Eager to hear from any brave or foolish individual as to how it affects music production. If I'm not mistaken this is the first OS to properly address Macs with Fusion Drive. For that alone I'm keen to see if there are any improvements. I have a Carbon Copy Clone of HS, so I might just go ahead and try it. Or maybe not. Yes. I will do it.

    Later.

I installed it and everything runs perfectly. All plugins and Logic functioning as before. Dark mode is a marvellous change.

I'm curious and i have a question to Mojave's users:
Are there any features that can improve the workflow for a a music producer?

Well I bit the bullet and installed yesterday and have been using LPX and UAUDIO gear extensively. I haven't noticed a single issue with anything. I also will say I haven't noticed any improvements whatsoever, so if you're not ready to upgrade, don't sweat it, you're really not missing anything. Dark mode is my new default, but it's really not that big a deal.

Dark mode is godlike. I just said fuck it. However, I'm a trash hobbyist beat maker, so don't make the same brash decision. Everything works normally. Haven't encountered any DAW issues. I use Ableton 10.0.3. Although they haven't advised to upgrade, I notice zero changes. Same with Logic X. Smooth as eggs. No noticeable performance boosts. Actually, previewing songs/samples with the 'space bar' has gotten a tad bit slower. Maybe because it has more capabilities. I upgraded from 10.13.6.

My MIDI board works as well. NI KK MKII as well as the software (and Kontakt, Maschine)
Omnisphere 2.5, LuSH-101, Tone2 Gladiator, Sugar Bytes and IK Multimedia stuff works fine.

Little Snitch 3.x is not compatible with Mojave. You'll need to upgrade to Vers 4...and best do it before you update the OS. Never pays to be an early adopter...

No issue here with my hackintosh :dunno:

  19. My box has five different boot partitions at the moment, and getting all of the boot loaders to play nice with each other can be a hassle. IIRC I wasn't willing to chance APFS and HFS+ partitions on the same drive, for some reason. For a new system by itself I wouldn't worry about it so much.

Not touching it with a ten foot pole. Way too soon. Plus in the middle of projects. I'll give it my usual 3-6 months.
