Is there a way to create a cheap NAS?

    FreeNAS is another open source NAS os.
    IMHO I think these days it's cheaper to buy one than build one. Even with cheap hardware.
    Although I would look at one that you can swap out the stock OS for an open source one.

    You talk about build a computer to run a NAS OS, right? In my case i had a good desktop laying around, just burned a USB stick (where i boot the OS) and it gives me a panel via web, and i made all the disks of that machine a ZPOOL storage, in less than an hour i had a local server up.

    I own a C2 and absolutely love it. I use it mostly as a media center, running Kodi through CoreElec, not as a NAS per se.

    The XU4 is better for this application I guess, since it support OpenMediaValut by default.

    Anyway, I love those little SOBs (lol). They are very energy efficient and can be used for a billion of different ends.
