It's alive!

We digitalized the controls of a Telefunken M15 and released it into the internet.

Into the internet? But, that's impossible!



We replaced the buttons with transistor gates and wired the lights outputs to microcontroller logic inputs, to get the status feedback from the machine’s transport control circuitry.

To read the tape position/end of tape, we took a photo sensor signal from one of the circuit boards and installed transparent leading tape on the beginning and the end of the reel.

The whole thing is piloted by a microcomputer, connected to our internal control network via USB.

The legendary 2-track stereo master recorder up and running, available for everyone to connect to it and try it for free.

Is it normal to end up with a 24sec snip?

 

No, please mail me the 24-sec snip to [email protected]. I'll refund the free bounce credit you spent and then we can troubleshoot what went wrong. My guess would be that the tape reached the end, had to rewind and the rewind alert bugged out and didn't go off.

 

so when someone uploads a file it gets recorded to the tape ?

 

Will be taped two times..

Like many people reamp guitar after it is recorded through amp.

Or like recording through a neve preamp and then mixing it in an analog console going through a preamp again.

yes, when I playback the track from intern your page I can hear some nice sounds from rewinding the tape!
so nice, that i´ve recorded it, so I can use it in another song, haha

the wave file is 159 MB, can´t send it via email!
but it is still saved on the page/server

 

Yes, if you choose the M15 signal chain then you can bounce any track you upload through the real Telefunken M15 tape machine, record it and download it. All in real-time.
