This might be one of the funniest threads I have seen anywhere. Not because everyone's opinions are not valid because they all are to them.
It's funny because it metaphorically reminds me of pushing snow uphill because the snow will always fall back down again, due to the fact that the topic is about a style of music that every country in the world has released tunes in that have gone to number one in their own country. Additionally, due to the fact that nobody will ever get a 100% agreement on something that will only ever be an opinion, because at different times in history, there have been number one hits from countries outside of each country of origin where each country thinks they can do it better.

There is no best truly. The best for ten years? one year? one month? one minute? There will always be someone or something better in everything we encounter. They or it will only ever be the best at a specific point in time and that still is a matter of discerning opinion.

Don;t let me stop you and I know I won't and would not even try, but if comparable idioms are going to be chosen, selecting a football, baseball or cup final might be a better option for the simple reason that there is no doubt who the winner is and to reiterate, only at that single point in time.

  2. It's rather a complicated issue. There would be thousands of reasons.

For the most part, DAWs and musical hardware/software have emerged from the Europe. They doubly rest on those tools more than the language itself for their self-expressions. In other words, in Europe, expectations and apprehensions from the music are somewhat different than the US. Electronically in the music, they are superior than the US but US doesn't look at this as superiority. By and large, music in the US means "lyrics and singing" but in Europe, sth fairly different (perhaps blending of sounds) and consequently in Europe lyrics isn't much appreciated. In sounds, sensations of "freedom, regret, sympathy, anger, etc" can not be coded and expressed well.:dunno:

Please don't be critical of me. It was just my thoughts.

  3. Gobblygook, every last word, letter and just lots of wasted, clingy, and yet more bothersome prickly static unless you cite the sources of your cut and paste as well as give concrete examples of what the heck you are insinuating. Your criticism begs criticism as I can see narry a thought in that collection of sentences . Once again you said nothing about something. If your answer was in response to a question on a test of knowledge gleaned from the week's classroom lecture, you would not recieve a passing mark...again.

Americans suck BECAUSE of POP... the rest of the world DOES NOT suck because they aren't part of a brainwashed society as moronic as my fellow citizens. I guess Japan and S Korea have they're effeminate pop puke... but still. EU kicks ass cuz they aren't given IV's of corporate entertainment.

Strange how nobody informed the BBC of that fact back in the day when the first completely wordless radio dramas in stereophonic and quadraphonic format were broadcast on national network.

I affirm that no Pop music was used in the stereo version. I should know. I created it.

  7. A radio DJ for the deaf, teaching ballet to those in bed at a hospice, opening a gourmet restaurant for anorexics, color coding book sections at the library for the blind, a Formula One racing course for toddlers...all worthy endeavors, as well as presuming a logic flow from the title of this thread.

I understand where u are comming from. But With the side note that English lyrics and US music in general is way more corny then european music in the last 10 years. It's filled with hyperboles, Way over the top, Like..... "good luck flying and touching the sky...."

if dutch radio would expand their libary with more national oriented pop (we have plenty), so they don't have to put same song in rotation every hour. I would enjoy tuning in.

Every opinion is valid to the person that holds that opinion. When this thread that I thought had died popped up again I clicked on the link. This is what the settings of this Forum posted by default. See the administrator if the settings are unacceptable, they made whatever rules exist nobody here did. Sure an informed opinion is always valuable but a topic that has too many variables I can see no good end and the insults flying on here though veiled, mirror that.

The thread author's opinion is valid - to HIM.
All of the poster's opinions are valid - to THEM.
The thread topic - is a can of worms.
