sorry if I offended you, that was not my intention! I may have indeed put it rather bluntly, but your opinion and knowledge about AV (and not computers! please dont put words in my mouth) was clearly mistaken...and you saw it by yourself ...and even came back to post it here!
I have no interest in confrontation for its own sake, but do not like when people write bollocks under the pretext it is their opinion...especially when facts speak otherwise. No wonder then that it has become so difficult to find reliable info out there. Hope that clear things up. My apologies again if you felt offended, and see you around!

Up until last week I had used Norton for 10 years with no problem that is not an opinion or bollocks it is a fact - deal with it and move on, and for the record I am still using Norton on my desktop.
As far as I am concerned I don't think you really know what you are talking about in fact based on my experience it is you who is talking bollocks.
Anyway I did not join this forum to waste time arguing with people like you, so I will not return to this thread again it is a waste of time that could be better spent doing something positive.

good for you but any AV DOES slow down your system...and your refusing to acknowledge that simple fact speaks for itself. case closed. I also have better things to do and was just taking the time to answer you for the sake of politeness. As you saw it yourself, it was not worth the trouble. *no*

U only get Viri after installing them !!!, they do not appear magically , so why to waste processing power?

I suggest to use at least 2 Windows installations, one DAW without network enabled, and another where you can try new things and mess around.

Just use Windows defender on that machine, and run sometimes Malwarebytes:

    and

    This should be enough!

I challenge anyone here who claims faith in any of the antivirus programs listed in the poll to scan a PC with installed "warez" with either of these and you will have a rude awakening. i know i did when i was put to the same challenge....

    what i use now:

    http://www.immunet.com/free/index.html

or the open source alternative, which i no longer rely on but still vastly out-protects the competition:

The best advise has to be to go with what works for You.

The only BAD experience I have had was with Norton. Man, it`s like fookin wading through treacle trying to get anywhere with it sifting thru everything.

I use AVG free, and Malwarebytes Pro as a secondary weekly scanner. But, that is on My on-line Lap Top.

My PC NEVER goes on-line so I try to search and clean EVERYTHING before installing/adding it to the PC.

Gotta go with an early on comment made in the thread tho:

COMMON SENSE BEATS EVERYTHING ELSE Hands down!!

i use NOD32 on my laptop the Smart security 4 - it works really well and is not so pissing and stupid like avira's antivir, which i have on my studio pc installed - it works well, but its stupid when it goes about keygens and patches ,but is a bit more cpu friendlier as NOD.

Malwarebytes Pro works awesome together with Spybot - Search and destroy - also weekly scanning and testing of things i downloaded ...

norton rocks the world on his own stupidy imo!
