Why do Americans love singing more than any activity in the music and why has the major part of the music industry been formed around the singing?

Vocal songs tell a story that we can relate to. Instrumentals also, but not everyone get's it.
I don't think there would be much left of the entire industry if you would remove all vocals from the music.
Although I think it would be a really good idea, in many, many cases.

 

Being Danish, it's hard for me to understand why Americans do many of the things they do. In music, in their everyday lives, and in international affairs. Autotune, 808 carpet-beaters, turkey-bacon, gas grills, war crimes and oil theft. I don't even know what's worse. Possibly the 808s. But there ain't nothing wrong with singing. The human voice is imho the most expressive instrument, even if 98% of all singers nowadays suck.

 

It's simply because the voice is, and has eternally always been, and will eternally be, the first primary, and most expressive, and most difficult, musical instrument. The voice is the one and only musical instrument which expresses the total quintessence of what the human being is.

Now, come on for another thread, @art.movement.style ; what more do you want to learn ?...

 

Until the rise of jazz and rock bands, the band or orchestra was always in the background (with a couple of exceptions, usually the drummer or other standout musician) and the emphasis was always on the singer. Not just here in the U.S., but everywhere. The reason it seems like it's emphasized now is because there really aren't any standout musicians anymore, or new bands that really do anything besides play a couple of chords and sound like they're rehearsing, even on their own albums. Rock's been dead for a while now, pop music is a couple of session players in the background (assuming they're even playing those instruments and not just there for show), your EDM or deejay shit is just one or two guys standing behind a rig gesturing while the pretty lights swirl around and rap, a.k.a., the most lucrative form of performed music these days is -- say it with me -- one guy with a microphone. You'll have to explain to me how this is anomalous to the U.S., though, because it seems to me that this is the case everywhere.

Betcha it's all a filthy ploy by the sneaky Illuminati to sell more overpriced microphones to the masses and irritate our good friend fart.movement.stool.

But look on the bright side. If someone is pointing a microphone at his face, he's possibly not the guy who is pointing a gun at yours. As an ex-sniper for the military wing of Mothercare I can tell you this for certain; it's real difficult to aim straight and sing at the same time.

Well.. It's hard to beat good vocals no matter what instrument you try to use. It has dimensions no instrument has. as it can also tell a story in words. And i dont understand a word of France other than merci, but using the voice like this dude it dont matter. He touches me and everyone ive played this for to tears.. Should fit even Foster since this guy is not from this world..

Just check out how he dances on the notes at 3.27.. crazy stuff..

Just like our school system in America.. C-grade is "average" level.. and thus the popular majority. Same thing in music.. the popular majority supplies and demands it according to their comprehensive level.. C-grade music. To be intrigued by jazz, classical, or even meaningful rap lyrics at a young age is now rare. It's more common for them to reach the age of 40-50 before their minds are sharp enough to demand something more than the dumbed down average.
