Pro Tools 10 cracked works up until 10.9.5, Mavricks, and this version is old and long unsupported by Avid. Don't keep your hopes up. sorry.

It works on Sierra to just not high Sierra. If you can’t get it done via terminal I can help via team viewer. PM me

I have a few years old iMac that I think is still on Mountain Lion... should I just keep it there ?
is it very difficult for Mac users to downgrade to an earlier OSX ? Seems that would be a solution if it's possible..

It is possible to downgrade up to the operating system available at the time any given Mac model has hit the market. For instance, I bought a 2016 Macbook Pro that came with 10.10 off the shelf, but it is a 2012 model, so I was able to install Mavericks, although it came with Yosemite from the factory.

There is a quite easy trick to get PT10 working on 10.10 to 10.12:

But you can only use the legit uncracked version on 10.12. In all my tests the cracked version crashed on Sierra.
Other downside in using PT10 on OSX higher than 10.9.5 is the graphic glitch in all popup menus. One can work with it, but its no fun.

I still use PT10 on higher OSX for multitrack recording because I can have much more tracks with low latency monitoring (32 samples) than in PT12.

Unfortunately you have to get an old Mac (read post above) or also old Hackintosh ( until chipset 80 or 90) because newer ones can't run 10.9.5

I wanted it really bad too, but reverting to Yosemite felt ancient. Ultimately, I gave up and upgraded to the current version.

The problem is that if you upgrade to Sierra of High Sierra, the installation process deletes the original OS X recovery partition. And it will no longer boot from and older OS X. However I know of two people who had success getting their local apple store to do the downgrade for them FREE solely because they had pro tools 10 running for them perfectly before the update.

I’ve successfully installed 10 on Sierra (not High Sierra) for at least a dozen or more people without ANY CRASHES ever. Only, the “drop down list - black out issue” which is true on all OSX maverick and newer.

I’ve even installed on high Sierra but is asked for iLok during launch. I’m favoring my PC running 12 with Waves these days though.

It's only $100 a year (plus an iLok 2 key) for Pro Tools 12. I haven't paid up my subscription in a while, so I'm still on 12.5, but $100 for what's basically the DAW of choice ain't bad, and if you don't renew, you still have whatever version you last downloaded, plus all the plugs, VIs and sample libraries/loops.

I had the k'd PT 10 back on Lion. If you have an older Mac, like some others on this post have said, you can downgrade back to whatever OS your Mac shipped with by accessing the network drive. You'll have to look up how to do this, but it's almost like booting up your Recovery drive, except you'll be doing it over Wi-Fi.

down grading over Wi-Fi after upgrading to High Sierra, I've never been able to do successfully. Or seen anyone do, except the apple store. Perhaps a Time Machine Backup is the easiest way.

The best way is to create a bootable USB drive and boot from there. Downgrading over WiFi might not work because there’s a time limit for downgraded installs. I have to set the date to the date of install on 2015 for Mavericks and Yosemite installers to be accepted.

Here’s a guide, but before atrempting the install change the date back three years. I’m assuming you want Mavericks because that’s where Pro Tools 10 [k’d] performs its best.

Actually not true. I had some serious issues with Sierra about two months ago during a defrag and had to find a way to re-install the system. Out of desperation, I tried the network recovery option ... which, unfortunately, was Lion. I believe it's contingent on whatever OS actually shipped with your computer originally. So it's still possible to downgrade at least all the way back to Lion. Not to mention, it's probably fairly easy to find Lion through Mavericks installers online, assuming your computer will let you install an older OS. Newer computers won't let you install anything older than the OS they originally shipped with.

High Sierra actually changes your HDD protocol from HFS+ to a new one called APFS (Apple Filing System) ... which is why I haven't upgraded yet.
