I have been given a copy of Pro Tools 10 and was wondering if i was to purchase an iLok if it would work

 

Yes and No​

 

Not worth it. They'll give you the run around and want you to pay like 160 bucks for a new ilok and the "warranty". But no they will not send you an ilok for free or anything. Basically by the end of it you may as well just buy a new pro-tools for what they will try to sell you the ilok for.

I had an issue with losing an ilok [which i ended up finding later on] which made it so I'll never use Pro-Tools or an Avid product again.

Ilok without any license is useless, you also would need the license on it ;)

 

Yes, you need a serial, that you use online to activate the specific PACE license.

Everybody could DL ProTools 10 and buy an empty ILok. You need the activation key (which of course can only be used once).

BTW PACE/Ilok is a pain in the ass sometimes. License trouble, website activation trouble,

you have to install Firefox 3.6/IE 9to use their website, everything else does not work.

Firefox 3.6 and no fix since years. No code update for their website.

And that as such a big company. Shame on you PACE.

 

I beg to differ the ilok website does work it does says "you need to downgrade", but it does work for the current version of firefox v18.02 which I am running if you read the site directions you can use two options the downloader (online) or offline it's the pace drivers themselves which can have issues
