How come, 2 tracks with the same LUFS can be so distinct in perceived volume? Is LUFS trustworthy compared with RMS for example?

To be simple, human earing is not linear at all. It takes a lot more decibels especially in the low end to sounds equal to the upper mids. Mid range focus is the key to a great mix. Both ends of the spectrum are headroom eaters, especially the low end.

Did you listen to both tracks on a full range loudspeaker or good headphone? If not, you could miss out on some lows, and have a different perception. RMS is a mathematical average of a just certain moment. LUFS is measured over time and has many more parameters.

You're right, LUFS is based on the k-weighted filter curve. However, a mindfulness/instinctiveness of psychoacoustics allows trickeries

That's because the LUFS integrated system is vastly different from the momentary system. LUFS is more superior than RMS because LUFS uses some frequency based measurement sort-of-thing. Here's a statement from Fabien of Tokyo Dawn Labs:
