This song has one of my favorite synth lead lines and solos so I decided to make a cover of this song for educational purposes, mostly in an attempt to recreate the sound of classic analog synthesizers using modern analog modeling sampler instruments/VST's.

Everything was recorded with a midi controller in Logic Pro X. I used Spectrasonics' Omnisphere and u-he's Diva for all of the synth and guitar parts, and the drums were done with Toontrack's EZdrummer plugin. I also layered an electronic drum kit in with the Acoustic kit from EZdrummer comprised of samples used in classic 80's electronic drums.

Any feedback/constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated :)

pretty nice... really decent recreation...nice and fat.. thumping nice sound

what synth/preset etc. did you use for the vocal melody line?
reminds me so much of Steve Winwood's synth sound he used a lot..

the only spot this isn't "spot on" would be the guitar lead... but to be expected

For that I used a lead from Diva's lead library called MK Overdrive. I don't remember what changes I made to it but I ran it through Valhalla's Vintage Verb. I uploaded them to my google drive if you want to DL them.

But yeah the guitar solo is pretty beat I admit. I don't actually have a dedicated guitar sampler instrument or anything, so trying to recreate it with omnisphere was difficult

not even beat.. but how do you really re-create Edward Van Halen ITB? I mean is there even a vst or lib that
is articulated enough for that ? maybe..maybe not...

but I keep listening to it coz it's that damn good... it's astonishingly close to the original..
the mix kicks ass.. good bass.. sounds like you got some boss skills there bro..
have you ever done any studio work with a band ? recording and/or mixing ?

Your synth part is really great,it could be the original.Your drums are very good too,but the guitar part is not as good in my opinion.

The synths are great. But that guitar , yikes indeed :) Try it with some guitar library like Shreddage or Prominy etc. Lots available on sister site.

Unfortunately the only real experience I've had mixing was at a summer camp one year and a concert for one of my friends XD

I do play for a couple churches on the weekends, and have been told I have a good ear for putting stuff together for my live sounds... And for several years I made covers of songs, mostly ones that I would use at church, but ever since we started purchasing the original stems from multitracks.com, I've kinda gotten away from that.

In all honesty, I have a lot of trial and error experience... and due to my struggles with depression, I've mostly held back in terms of sharing stuff or trying to put myself out there. But lately, I've been trying to turn that around.

So I really do greatly appreciate all the comments and private messages I've received in response to this, the good and the bad. All I can say is that I will try to become an active member here and offer what help and knowledge I have to the rest of the community and will try and post some more to my SoundCloud.

The story behind that song is actually really funny in my opinion haha. So I was in my room messing around with a song, and my little cousin and his friend (they must have been 6 at the time) came in and asked if we could make a rap and they would write some lyrics XD

Initially I just set up the mics and let them rap over the track I made, but I did record it. I came back to that project several years later and thought it would make a good birthday present for my cousin who was much older. IIRC, it was just several Apple Loops from the Logic Pro X library that I layered into it haha

Haha thanks bro, it wasn't meant to be a serious project at the time we recorded it. See the above post if you wanna know the story.

:unsure:That sounds however...I don't understand all the lyrics,I just read and write a bit English,Americans have a too pronounced accent for a French.
I liked the simple cello chords and the voice of a little or a young girl.
Sometimes the track which other people like the most is not the track you have worked the most.I read sometimes ago an artist' story who was saying that his best success track was a track he wrote in an evening. After the years I realized that people like simple melodies, basic beats.

I played this a million times as a radio DJ and you've nailed the synth lead. It sounds slightly more distant than the original, a touch more reverb than the original. Or it could be that the original was mastered differently. Well done.

I simply loved it, very faithful recreation (except for the guitar maybe), well done!

The main synth lead is from Diva? :woot:
And I thought the only VSTi able to emulate this lead was the OP-X...

Nice job on the synths. I also am a little disappointed in the lead part, but I do understand it is very hard to get the sound out of a synth.
