my favorites: Addictive Drummer for dragging and dropping midi on to the arrange window in logic. lots of different sounds. plays midi well. a solid package. I use EXS24 for a lot of sampling. i have many many kits. especially analog. SPARK 2 seems to be pretty nice, sounds great right away. not really my style, but i have it. Abbey Road Drummer in Kontakt. is the best acoustic drums. I also have a volca sample for low bit outboard breakbeats. and a volca beats for the 808 analog snare. i use them as a plug in almost. i have the volca beats set up on its own track. send midi to it. then use it as a analog plug in. you can find them for under a hundred bucks used. if you want analog. its the only way

I agree with you on that. You can do more with whatever you know we'll even if it is not the best than you can do with the best that you don't know as well. I am happy with Geist and Maschine. No need for 10 more drum machines that basically will do the same in a different way. All that learning interferes with creativity.

    i use
    reaktor polyplex.

    rob papen punch

    dr fusion in nearly everything

theres some twisted tools stuff i have not really been able to wrap my head around, but its probably because they are drum sequencers and fl studio with reaktor sometimes doesnt mesh with certain things well.

    fl studio's FPC .

my go to for samples are always goldbaby . i have all of their stuff but also slowly becoming a legit owner by purchasing 1 pack every two months, so im at officially 8 of their sample packs

Yes, I totally agree with you. it was just a list with plugins that do their job. less is more.
I think that with 166 years I would not have enough. I need family life ...and time to enjoy making music.

    My goto:
    Sonic Academy - KICK 2
    Native Instruments - Maschine
Applied Acoustics Systems - Chromaphone 2
    D16 or Roland for 808/909

I would like to mention fxpansion's GURU. It works under High Sierra in 32Lives and as a stand-alone app. It is the most powerfull beat slicer, dicer, sampler, sequencer and generally playable instrument I've come across, and is so easy to use, you'll want to take it to bed with you. Geist - the so-called replacement, is no such thing, but a different animal with its own strengths and weaknesses. Getting multiple samples layered and triggered by velocity takes 20 seconds, and actually works. Try that in most others.
Logic's Ultrabeat takes the GURU idea and tries to tame it and squeeze it into the Logic mode, but fails miserably. Yes you can layer samples, but only if you make a sampler instrument first! Like saying you can have an ice cream only if you eat a three course dinner first. Who wants to do that when there's an ice cream van waiting for you filled with goodies.

Of all the ones I tried, I liked Guru, Xfer Nerve, Sampler(ableton) the most. I like the new Roland 808 , 909 VSTs, they do round robin which is a plus. And Poise is quite good, though i don't really use if for percussion.

Oh, and there is elecktroid, which sounds superb. Very crisp and clean. Good sequencer, probability, pitch , velocity etc. etc. which all can be sequenced. 2 samples per pad, which can be layered intutively, or layer a synth and sampler. Sound is amazing

I usually wind up using EZDrummer as a timekeeper during composing -- I just throw on a generic kit and setting it to play a 4/4 or 3/4 loop I custom made for the EZD library. If you're looking for a drum machine-drum machine, Spark's pretty good, Aly James' Linndrum isn't bad, but considering Roland Cloud put out the 808 and 909, you're probably better off with the genuine article.
