Once again I totally agree with you, so many good bass players right now but Jaco "opened up all the doors" so Stanley did and many other double bass players since ages like Scott La Faro, Eddy Gomez, Marc Johnson...etc... I do like Christian Mc Bride ( seen him at the Nice Jazz Festival with Herbie Hancok and Pat Metheny long time ago, that was stunning, he was just 19 and so mature).John Patitucci (with Chick Corea in particular and his own albums) and Tom kennedy as well. I was born in 1969 so I do understand what you mean, I really do !

You have named some real GIANTS of jazz there. Fantastic!
laFaro is rumoured to have started the electric bassists off in influence. What he did on the '61 Bill Evans live at the Village Vanguard was superb. There is an interview with Ray Brown somewhere how he and Paul Chambers (another two legends) saw laFaro playing and they both said that if they practiced for 10 years they still probably wouldn't play like that. laFaro was the Jaco of the time then.
There seems to be one every 15 years or so... Wooten after Pastorius so someone else will jump on the scene doing something nobody has thought of soon I think.

Yes they are Giants of jazz (Ray Brown and Paul Chambers as well, Ron Carter too ). As a bass player, I like jazz fusion, funk and electric stuff of course but I always go back to be bop and standards, going back to the roots actually and I love that
