People have been saying this since 2011 when Cubase 6 wasn't cracked.

"Man, this company is going to hell" Signed;random Joe, sometime around 2011 on the internet. Random Joe also predicted the end of the world in 2012.

Life goes on, people develop, so does technology... I remember the day my mother said I won´t be needing cell phone, guess what? The thing is vst 2.4 sdk is outdated, get over it

Somehow he was right, the world really ends, strictly speaking, in every moment.
But fortunately, it continues seamlessly the very next moment - usually.
Sometimes it "takes longer", but nobody notices, because it is not a question of "time".
It's admittedly a bit difficult to explain... :)

I can't predict the future, but you can be sure DAW support for VST2 isn't going to disappear in at least 5 years, to say something.
Steinberg is not banning VST2, just dropping their support.

I don't mind change. A gigantic hole in the side of my house is another matter entirely (Windows 10 I'm talking to you).

I think (hope) that wider adoption will mean moar users bombard Steinberg requesting an "install where you like" standard for VST3. Pretty bizarre, tbh. I will defo be forwarding a strongly-worded email to their wastebin ASAP. Or in a few weeks. Or months. Or when I get around to it, ok? >_____>

Anyway, interesting stuff they're doing w/ VST3, just hope it goes somewhere. Sooner Kontakt (well any rly) devs get on board the better.

I'm surprised VST3 technology is not better implemented in most DAW yet. VST3 is not new anymore and I have to admit I'd like more companies to make VST3 versions of their plugs.
As a Cubase user, since the beginning of it VST3 plugins works better and snappier than VST2 ones and with absolutely no bug.
It could seems a bit bossy from Steinberg but they consider Cubase internal plugin manager renders unnecessary organizing VST3 plugs into custom folders and probably expect all other DAWs to be able to do the same. Maybe they try to push competitors' users to ask for same functionalities or leave the boat for another one.
I'm quite sure getting rid of VST2 will have a positive impact on Cubase performances and Steinberg business, but do all the DAW benefit from it, not sure ? And it could be at a cost of loosing some excellent plugins.

I doubt it will change anything in the near future.
I'll keep on using vst3 only with cubase to get the same functionnalities I have with every other daws I use with vst2.
Also vst3 are buggy in other daws. I figure it's the fault of the devs who make the plugins and not the vst3 format which is faulty, but at the end of the day it's all the same. Even if I wanted to use vst3 in my other daws one plugs out of two doesn't work, missing functions or vst coming back at its default preset when I open a saved project where the vsts in question had been edited. It happens in all my other daws.
Using vst3 with other daws than cubase today seems about as safe as upgrading to windows 10 and making regular updates...Like, borderline suicidal...

Well, there isn't *yet*, there will be if cubase 10 doesn't support vst2, and there may be someone developing such a bridge already *shrug*

I was thinking about a VST2 bridge, too.
    I still use x86 VST2  a lot.

32 to 64bit. Analog to DAW. Why do you fear everytime audio tech evolves? Whether you like it or not, VST2 will fade away. Prepare yourself for the future.

Usefull "evolutions" usually are successfull in their adoptions by the public, and pretty fast . No one said about the internet "it's already done elsewhere, just a gimmick to make a few dimes". Or about electricity. Or the light bulb. The point of those (r)evolutions were pretty clear.
In the audio world digital actually replaced analog very fast as soon as it was affordable. Every one saw the gain of it for work efficiency, and the analog quality of sound was never lost since they are not mutually exclusive. Also, ever heard of Midi ? It came in the beginning of the 80s (so digital era 1.0) and from the willigness of the musical industry in its entirety (first demo at namm between a jupiter and a prophet, people were wowed) to find common ground so that devices could communicate between them in an universal langage regardless of the manufacturer. Has midi been ever disregarded - or even replaced depsite many attempts - or ignored since this handy and universal tool was created ? Nope. A undeniable evolution adopted immediatly, like evolutions usually are.
Win 10 or vst3 just aren't technological evolutions. They just are newer...and right now pretty useless(vst3 being usefull at least for Cubase users).
I don't know any person in the audio world who would reject a new plugin format, more ressource efficient and able to offer more options nor do I know any that would refuse a new OS that offer better performance, security, hardware and driver integration or whatever.
Newer isn't necessarily better nor more evolved.
