Gibson by Behringer, sounds cool to me. Comes with an integrated 16bit 44khz sound card.

The old ones are the best, just research which years were good and grab a piece of history.

Hate Gibsons guitars, they are like Apple's iPhone in the world of technology. Outdated and expensive for no reason.

Local dealers that I talked to about monitors all mentioned that they were having immense difficulties obtaining many KRK products ever since Gibson took over. Sounds like Gibson needs some brand new management, fast. Hey, maybe they can make a deal with Jeff Bezos.

Yeah this was expected... Unfortunately Gibson last CEO was not able to correct the path.

They will never be outdated :) I got mine used and I could sell it tomorrow for the same amount that I paid for it, and I have already been offered a higher price. It's a really nice instrument to own, and I get lots of pleasure out of playing it. Nothing kicks ass like a Les Paul running through a Marshall stack

and if they don't sort this out properly, the price of a "real" Gibson from the past, will only continue skyward...
I'd say stop the rush to the bottom, it obviously didn't help the bottom line,
get back to making quality instruments with high grade materials the way it started !

though I have heard that sourcing fine woods is not so easy these days...the vintage market at some point will become
out of reach for the average punter if it isn't already...

Well it didn't take too long after getting rid of Cakewalk.

I do respect your personal idea, however, neither the Gibson nor the Fender can compete with nowadays guitars anymore. Please consider I am talking about metal and shredding.
They try to compensate their low rate of sale by high prices because they have lost most of the market.

Sad. That's what happens when you treat music like a corporation.
What in your opinions are the best alternatives for Gibson and Fender? I love ESP's Gibson style guitars, and was thinking of getting a Strat, or a guitar that sounds like a Strat.

I really don't hate them. I think they were much better in the 60 - 80's than they are today.

  18. Yes, seems they took the eye off of the thing they were historically consummate, namely high quality guitars. Although not a customer for what is now 44 years, have heard many speak of sub standard quality control concerning very expensive guitars. I am not quite sure how something like that could happen except that chief executive officer Henry Juszkiewics and president David H. Berryman, to try to balance the books on it's slew of subsidiaries such as Teac, Pioneer, Onkyo, pulled money and resources from their strong instrument foundation, in retrospect, foolishly. It is a privately held company and they let it get away from them. I guess that they got some bad advice and made some errant decisions. Now they again focus on their musical instruments, take a $135,000,000 loan to keep it afloat, give away equity to creditors.

The only new Gibson instrument that I have played in years was an incredible SJ-200 at a local (since out of business, family owned for over 100 years) music instrument store which blew my socks off. I wanted to see how it was different to my 1980 Ibanez J-200, a spruce topped, curly maple sided clone. The Ibanez sounds very nice, is a loud and protecting guitar, built tight, perfectly intonated in every alternate tuning I can throw at it, but that Gibson was at least a few cuts above and gave me pause to consider how to bankroll the CHF 6000 or so they were asking. If they could consistently do that up and down their line, their future as an instrument maker, selling 40% of all instruments over $2000, is certainly secure.

Yep, shredding and metal is different deal, and other companies have stepped in to satisfy that market, but for traditionalists you can't beat the sound of a Fender Tele (single coil) and a Les Paul (humbucker) playing in unison, and so many alt/indie bands are still doing it that way today.

have never come across something non-Fender that sounds "like a strat" , people make parts casters etc. but Fender seems to
be guarding it's tone pretty carefully, and there is a wide price range of "Strat" bodied guitars, from Squier, to Mexi, to American,
and then the pricey Custom Shops. G & L did ( does ) too, but then that was a Leo Fender offspring as well...

Schecter did do some nice Tele shaped guitars, some very pricey now
