    Cool thread :blues:
If you like Larry Graham you should definitely check out this vid from the 80s (if you haven't already):

Quality is not the best as it came from a VHS but still watchable and very entertaining.
Not just funk but it is amazing to watch Larry thumping and singing away, grooving along with the sometimes bored looking Japanese session drummer.

To learn to play the bass part of funk, you fist need to control your timing. Before slap, before anything, your timing has to be under control.
Listen to Jerry Preston with Maceo Parker is a good way to hear how the timing is controlled.

Then there are the phrases, a lot of funk bass phrase are written on a longer time that the chords of the song.
Many of them are 16 bars, but with different end for the second time you play the 16 bars...
Good example of both is Jerry Preston in this Maceo Parket song called I got to getcha

Just curious...Is there a difference between Disco and EDM? Rock or Hard (Heavy Metal) Rock? Blues or Bluegrass Music? Soul or Funk Music? I ask this B4 I totally stay away from this thread.

Just trying to ascertain some clarity...

Or should the title of this thread really be...Sharing experience for those of you that want to learn Slap bass or playing funky like music?

    Funk w/Funk bass lines...

Music that is funky...Soul, R&B etc...

I know that understanding the language I am speaking to you might be like you being Spanish and trying to understand Swahili, lol. But thats
how it goes when you try and interpret what the world believes something might be instead of living and breathing it in the 1st place.

To you that this offends get over it. To you that want to understand I commend you.

    Peace.

P.S. @Hardcore311 I can point you in any direction whether you want to learn funky basslines or Funk basslines As I am a Pure Funk Bassist that plays all genres of music but grew up learning, living and playing Funk.

Luckily, Funk, as many music genres, is open enough to not to smother in his own sauce.. :)
In art, purists are useful for memory only, art live by it's own necessary evolution.

Man, I was trying to be courteous...It's obvious to me your use of the word purist is a slant and only good for you and pine. However...I love the memories of those days when Funk was Pure and Raw before people like you came along not understanding what they were saying and how that went with the music and then as most "outsiders" do begin to "Waterdown" the Pure concept via lack of knowledge. But I get it...You will never understand or relate to what FUNK is. No problem. Point accepted. You can lead a "Nag" to water but you can't make
him drink it. I know it's difficult to "think outside the box" when you only know what you think is "Funky" and apply it in reference to to all "Black" Music you think is Funk or Funky and/or anything you hear that you think is influenced that way. You just don't know better... It might be best for you to stick to EDM or perhaps what ever Non-Purist Genre of music you're good at.

Because as Bootsy once said...that if "you fake the funk; your nose got to grow".

Lastly, "Free your mind and your ass will follow!" -George Clinton.

    P.S. @pine, I don't have "Ovaries"...Do you?:dont:

No, man absolutely not, I really thing diversity is important. We are all different, and I have my own purism some times too...
I'm not here to judge anyone, I'm far too imperfect to do this.
If my word sounded this way I'm very sorry and I take them off...
