Does everyone need to step back and think about what enabled any pre-theory schooled person to be able to play their first tune or beat in school with others?
Their ears and communication. I played for a decade before I learned theory and did it all by ear playing and working tunes out from LP's, cassettes and then CD's until they were so played out I sometimes had to buy a replacement. Each skill helps the other.
If a person cannot hear then with very few exceptions like Beethoven, then no theory or playing skills are worth much at all because a person cannot communicate by either looking at another for cues because they cannot hear where they are, or looking at a piece of paper because again, they cannot hear where they are or playing whatever they want because yet again, if they cannot hear where they are it may as well be anything.

To play or put music first, the ears must be put first because it is exactly what the audience and musicians use the most even if they are not aware of it. Music is a Universal language. You can put ten people in the same room and they may not be able to speak one word of any of the other people, but if they can HEAR and play, they can communicate.

This is a basic skill everyone has unless they are deaf from birth and even then, some people have overcome this by feeling the very vibrations music radiates... so they "feel" what we hear.
I am truly over statements about theory, or playing or notes or grooves or whatever is this or that.
Every one of them has a valuable place in music with none being less or more valuable. FFS.
The only time it is of no value is if the information is wrong.

I have to admit I have little to no use for it.. , not to say there is anything offensive about it, long winded tho it may be.
He studied it, he learned it, and he is sharing it. I have no doubt it contains real knowledge that some may find useful.

See, the thing is, a melody is defined both by what is played as well as what is not. Choices of timing, space between notes and of course the velocity and flow can have profound impact on how a melody is expressed. Dry and lifeless text with no relation to life, breath, heart and soul is meaningless as a way to impart the ideas necessary to educate a novice on the intracacies and nuance of the very foundation of an artform that only lives by the ability of the artist to express their inner fire and ice. The only acceptable way to attempt the role of educator in this disipline is by example. Only by furnishing examples in the form of music itself and not by rote can one hope to achieve any modicum of success.

The way "theory" is written here is not commonly shared in schools or books or teachers .
It is not by chance the whole world (western music) uses musical staff and chord symbols ,(or aural teaching and ears) .
You will not find any theory books without staff , only letter names of notes .

I think i got the idea , i will develop further :

A well known broadway melody :

I am sure most people will recognize it instantly !

You can harmonise it with diatonic clusters :
In C :

CDEF for the I chord
DEFG for the II chord
EFGA for the III chord
FGAB for the IV chord
GABC for the V chord
ABCD for the VI chord
BCDE for the VII chord

Remember that some chords can substitute for each other , giving you more combinations to re-harmonize the melody !

This information gives you 15 ways to reharmonize this melody using only clusters and diatonic substitutions .

 

I decided the best solution is to invent an entirely new musical system that is gender neutral and gives equal credit to all areas of music. I am going to extend the musical vocabulary seeing everyone here has obviously watched too much Monty Python or had no drugs in their youth or too many drugs.

If for whatever reason nobody understands the system then the key of "Y" is also prohibited.
You may not combine keys ever, because nobody wants to hear anyone Using testicular minor ON Labia Majora.

Yes. It is so because music is all about sound. Even Beethoven heard the music in his mind as he scribbled away those dots and dashes, although he was functionally deaf and could no longer jam or play out in public those last years of his life when he wrote a little ditty entitled Symphony °9. How could the musicians in the orchestra play his beautiful composition if they only saw letters on a page with no semblance to reality, understand and convey the necessary emotion to bring the master's fruitful imagination to life? The conductor, if faced with the attempt to lead those in his charge only with something like DFABbCDEABbCD could not possibly be expected to do so, and we would never be blessed to behold so much incredible beauty, that which Beethoven wished to share to us all coming down to us through the centuries.
