I think I find portable easier to install, but wondering - is there any benefit of going for Symlink over Portable please?
If Symlink offers advantages, I'll go for that rather than Portable.

There is nothing to install with portable, hence the name. Just put the folder wherever you want and run the programme.
Symlink I am sure is fairly easy but I don't see any advantage using it if portable is available.

I believe symlink also installs dlls, for use with a host.

 

Two completely different methods and results. Symlinks is a way of installation when you are installing the shortcut of file in one place and the file itself on the different place. The cult of this bullshit starts from famous russian tracker. Portable - means portable. It does not require installation at all. Just run and it will work.

 

Hardly a cult, just a different way of installing. The installation is really fast. personally I use the portable as when new versions come along you don't have to bugger about with the registry etc...or as they say now ect. I find Russia a great source of torrents....don't be frightened

 

It's not fast when you need to update non-symlink installation with symlink. Especially when you have dedicated HD for the software, and all directories in that god damn intaller are f!cked up. And there was few episodes when a proper release was absorbed by symlink version for no obvious reason . That's just wrong.

I had near 10tb upload traffic at moment when i decided to turn off my stats. It's not about "bad because russian", it's about "weird way to make simple things more complicated for no obvious reason".
