I can't decide between the two, so I'm kinda using both!
Just wondering which you prefer and why?
And what features are better from either DAW?
    Comments and feedback are appreciated!

As you can probably tell, I have both. You wanna hear what's better, so I'll say Ableton, because it's more versatile and definitely faster (in workflow). Logic has better stock synths and FX. Get both and understand them. It'll take time, but you want the tool that'll best fit your style. By the way, there's no rule saying you can't use more than one DAW. You may like and use both.

I wont tell you which to pick, but I can tell you the best way to decide. Give each DAW a challenge.

Pick 2 ideas you have for a project, now choose which DAW to start with.

do the same project in the other DAW too.

Now pick the second project, starting with the other daw first, and repeat the step with the same project in the other DAW.

    This is the good bit.

    1) Which daw did you feel most comfortable using. gets a score of one point, nothing for the other.
    2) which one was quicker
    3) which one gave the best results. 1 point for winner
    4) were you able to finish each project using either the stock plugins, or what you had on your computer? a point for winner
    5) on bits you got stuck with, which one took less time to find the answer )1 point)

you can set other challenges as you go, but you get the idea.

Or you can make the decision without any fuss to say sod it, and pick one. Then commit yourself to several hours of binge learning. I did that with ableton, and have been using it since version 5. I wont stop using it any time soon!

I've never used Logic, so I cant comment on it!

One other thing I will say though, if it's true that Logic stock plugins are better, then when it comes to making money from your music, your going to have to factor in the cost of several 3rd party plugins. which one needs fewer may be a factor for you!

After using both I found Logic best suited my workflow. Ableton just felt confusing to me at first, so Logic got my dedication for over a decade.

Logic stock plugs and content are excellent, you can basically stick with only those and be good to go.
Many users use Abe to create a song and mix/master in Logic due to the quality of the stock plugs and great mixer.
Ableton has way better audio manipulation and automation. Logic can get there... but you jump through 10 hoops to achieve to the same goal.
Both have a wealth of tutorials available.
    Cost. Logic hands down
I really don't like being tied to Apple platform. Ableton wins all day for that.

So I would use both if my tiny brain could handle it. It can't. But if yours can then stick with them both and you can't go wrong.
Otherwise, use sylenth.will.fall advise and stick with one. Good luck

Talking about DAW is talking about a tool.
Do you prefer "hammer" or "ruler" ?

    Logic/Cubase/Studio One/Sonar ... are very nice "all rounder" : MIDI, audio,mixing ...
Ableton Live is, guess what, "live" oriented. Real time, if you prefer. Not really good at "linear" approach. Like Usine.

There are "special" daws too, like FL studio : not live oriented, not really good for mixing. But really nice inspiration from it. And electro music oriented. Really nice linear arrangement. Nice piano roll. And more...

My usual example : try to record and mix a "cyber metal symphonic" song, with around 64 tracks (16 orchestral, 16 electro synths, guitars, bass, drums, vocals ...) on FL studio or Live and tell me :D
I prefer Logic or Studio One for this task, by a large margin.

That's why you NEED to know : WHAT are your projects ?
Big symphonic projects ? forget about FL studio or Live
Live ? need a live DAW
    ...

What type of music do you produce?

I, for example, produce Hip-Hop and use Maschine as a plugin with routed Audio outputs inside Logic. I know that Live has incredible audio mangling capabilities, but I just don't like the way tho whole GUI is structured. Especially when it comes to the Mixer. The Sequencer is pretty bang on in terms of ease of use (esp. for Automation) but the whole mixer, the way they realized channelstrips is just a total fuck up, imo.

I want a clean structured extra mixer window resembling a traditional channel strip with top to bottom singnal flow and not that left to right spliced up screen view Live has. You cannot do complex audio routings as well in live as in Logic. I am talking about submixes, parallel processing, bussing and setting up the mixer like an analog console.

Logic also has these incredible MIDI Transform Functions, which easily lets you batch process Midi events that otherwise take a long time to edit manually. Like doubling or half-timing events, quickly editing velocities in various ways, changing event lengths, etc.

Logic can also handle video which is great for Sounddesign, which I also need it for.

But in the End it's all comes down to your personal preference.

This should be your first question. I don't know of too many people using Live for film, for example. if your just making beats, it doesn't matter. Far too many people are overly sensitive about what DAW or even what OS they use. Both Live and Logic are wonderful. I think Logic is a better deal, however. More bang for the buck.

Ableton's audio manipulation is just unbeatable, so personally, that makes Live the only DAW i can use...

I like writing in ableton a lot more, as i am faster, its a damn video game, and everything is fungible in time and pitch a lot easier... but when it comes to recording vocals and guitars etc, Logic will be better, as actually has comping and whatnot.... so it depends on your personal approach and taste etc... both are solid.

I use them both Logic just sounds better, but Live is faster and more creative. You can always rewire live to logic and use them both - in rewire you lose some functions but it's a nice compromise. This is a great thread because this is like saying you like blondes over brunettes. Rewire is your 3 some : )

I don’t know why other people say that Logic has better stock plugins, cause I personally don’t think that’s entirely true. I mean.. I know that both packs some great stock stuff, Ableton’s endorsement with Cytomic and Xfer proves that Live has better compressors/filters(the later modes introduced in Live’s Auto-Filter are straight from Cytomic’s The Drop, Andrew Simper’s algos are top notch).

Logic is better on the Synths side as Alchemy can get a bit more complex on the sampling/sound design side and some more drums/vstis that comes with it, but other than that.. Live 10 + all the Cytomic stuff + it’s already excellent Sampler & Simpler + the new wavetable synth + the native implementation of the !amazing! Max4Live. Creativity wise, I think live10 is a bit more fluid.

Even F9 Audio’s owner admitted that he couldn’t make the Logic side of his packs as complex and flexible as Live’s instruments racks which he featured in his multi-format products.

I use both. I like/use both for different reasons. I experiment more in Ableton and Logic for recording instruments and arranging editing.

I agree with the AudioGL. Logic, when proficient, far more powerful workflow then Ableton. Logic's VSTi's pretty great, Alchemy, EQ and compressors awesome, custom key commands, MIDI outstanding. I could go on and on and on, and would because you get so so much for $199!!!!

As I said, I do use both. Love Ableton too.

I selected Logic but the vote went to Ableton, hmmm....

Ableton & Logic are two completely different DAWs. Logic is the mature grownup in this relationship with years of knowledge and wisdom.
No gimics or drama. Just straight shootin' from the hip. Quality stock plugins and very good compatibility. Stable.

Both are great. I work a lot faster in Ableton, but I still prefer tracking in Logic. Logic's sampler and drum machines are ultimately what drove me away tho. Can't beat simpler/sampler and drum racks. It really boiled down to speed for me.
