Well, how about some a-b comparison then to enlighten us? Not all of us have access to said plugins but I'd really love to hear it :)

Would a legit demo of the Weiss f**k up any cracked Softube installation on a system?

I bought it a few weeks ago. It's absolutely awesome, and once you get used to it and start making your own presets it doesn't take so long to set up. The sound can be so clean and controlled. Some users on GS said that they could use DMG's Essence which does have very similar controls and has been said by the creator to have been inspired directly by the DS-1. But it lacks the absolutely insanely fast attacks and releases that can be achieved from the DS-1 and the 'release average' on the DS-1 is just perfect. For me, it's the perfect dynamics processor. I don't mind the gui so much and it has become almost intuitive to adjust all of the hidden settings to taste. Anyway, for the £300 I paid for it, it was totally worth it. It's expensive but it can also function as a kind of EQ, a kinda multiband compressor when used in multiple instances and also an expander... I don't care for the limiter.

What I've learnt from a couple of years [decades] in music is that there are no magical tools, only magical knowledge... and that you can make great records with cheap tools and not much better with much more expensive ones.

  8. Almost. If you've got Abbey Road and you're trying to capture every nuance of Leona Lewis, a tool such as the Weiss is essential. If you've got five Canadian headbangers with retail instruments, Reaper is too much.

@SineWave You have made an excellent point in so few words.
