    Dear all,

    I made a Custom Action which creates Chords from a Melody.
    The progression of Chords that is made "retains" the Melody in it.
    (ie: you will still hear the Melody in the progression).

    Hope you find this useful !

    Warm Regards.

    @panaman you will see the links if you watch the video on Youtube rather than on here.
    Click where it says 'Youtube' at the bottom right of the video above. Then on Youtube click the 'Show more" text in the description.

    Great tool...

    Is it only for Reaper? No other DAWs?

    this method was misleading, if you have a completely irregular melody notes, the chord of the melody are irregular too, you cant found chords fits the melody, and the melody was just some voiced notes from harmony chords, you cant found the root of a single note.

    I don't understand
    If you make a melody with key snap and a chosen KEY

    then
    you already know what chords belong to each note!

    here is how that works.

    imagine in the KEY of C major.

    C<D<E<F<G<A<B

    CEGB
    DFAC
    EGBD
    FACE
    GBDF
    ACEG
    BDFA

    next your melody notes are the 3rds and 7th ( alternate)

    next ALL you 7 chords REALLY only represent 2 different chords.
    CEGB HOME
    GBDF AWAY from HOME

    I=iii=vi (CEGB=EGBD=ACEG
    ii=IV (DFCA=FACE
    V=vii% (GBDF=BDFA)

    (ii=IV)=(V=vii%) {DFAC=FACE}={GBDF=BDFA}

    all together

    { (I=iii=vi),(ii=IV)=(V=vii%) }

    your chord progression come out of this.

    start with I (CEGB)
    next V to I (GBDF, to CEGB)
    next ii V I ( or IV V I)

    Thank you vanhaze! Too bad it's only for Reaper
    I did not understand your technique (sorry I do not know the theory), but if you're saying that when we have the melody and we know its scale, we already know what chord goes with each note. If that's the case then it would be great.

    We should all learn the basics of music theory at some point......

    looks like this might give you chord options to choose from

    For me the first two notes are E G# so the chord E makes sense; I pick a E/g#
    Then the notes are D# and B so the chord could be G#m or Emaj7 for a jazzier sound; I pick B/f#
    Notes F# D# B with a G# bass makes a G#m7
    Notes F# G# could be F#m9

    Possible progression of a million possibilities....play the melody twice:
    E/g# - B/f# - G#m7 - F#m9

    C#m - G#m - B

    I barely know my intervals, triads and inversions. Knowledge and your interpretation is what makes music.
