I have witnessed many discussions when musicians have said they hated jazz only to turn around and say they loved the blues. Funny thing is jazz comes from the blues.
I have heard the same from some country musicians who said they like jazz but hated the blues.
I said nothing. It achieves nothing to point out Blind Lemon Jefferson who started in the late 1890's and was one of the first bottleneck guitar players and how jazz formed after that or show country musicians that their bluegrass 2-beat comes from the dixieland 2-beat, or that R&R for a greater part has blues at its core....so on and so forth.


Most music in western society since then that has been popular in one way or another has some root in blues.
The type of blues does not matter. It is like all music it is good or it is not. I love it forever and I like a lot of music.
If you asked any great guitarist in rock, metal,country,soul,jazz, R&B or any style to play a straight blues, they probably can and well at that.

I love Larkin Poe lately, killer harmonies and doubled up voices are spot on...but they are sisters after all....and related to Edgar Allen Poe! These two do the blues as well as bluegrass sooo nicely.

 

Do I love the blues?
16 bar loop of simpleminded 1-4-5, with some noodling in pentatonic + 1, that so-called "blues scale"? You call that music? Ignorant, pernicious nonsense, that's what it is!
