thats is only valid for multicore processing as far as I know

here the same test with NI Maschine, even tho it has a bigger buffer sice

I only get about ~60 Instances of Decapitator. I havent tried the exact amount as above, just by increments of 15 Instances

Maybe its due to I trigger multiple samples here rather than just playing back a audio file as on logic.

But heck its not an scentific experiment here, just a quck test. (to get an overview/idea)
4 Groups / 15 Instances of Decapitator playing a pattern:

NI Maschine is pretty bad when I comes to Multicore processing, I get cracks and pops as far as the CPU load goes > 50% !

That means that Single Core Perfomance is very important for Maschine.
Ergo any modern I7 will outperform any XEON Mac when using Maschine.

Thats the reason people built Hackintoshes, simply since apple do not offer any high (single core) performance I7 Desktops

Yes i'm still in the stone age, but i progress step by step, i'm so happy with my z600 =) it's far away from my ancient pc.
No i don't use these plugins so i have don't do test, but i know there are cpu killerz.

The Xeon E5-2680 v3 is Haswell (not Sandy Bridge), but its IPC is quite low by today's standards. Together with only 2.5 GHz base, that's the bottleneck here.

20 years ago I compared server boards with multiple xeon beasts with standard gaming boards with 'normal' (high eng) intel cpus. The gaming rig always won for DAWs. Sometimes the chipset was very exotic and changing the bios settings didn't help, sometimes the overhead from managing more than one cpu killed performance. most of the time the PCI slots were badly interfaced, killing performance and producing dropouts.
Today it is less likely to find an exotic chipset even on a worstation or server board, but your system is definitely not mainstream. It was made for rendering or analysis or for being part of some server architecture.
Before you end up with a disable cpu (and therefore trash half of your investment), think about selling it as it is and have a coffee lake system with 6 or 8 cores on an z370 (gaming) board. Thats what millions (other people than us) run and they do a good job in testing it for us.

I can use 150 decapitator FX on 150 tracks in Reaper without dropouts with an I7 6700K overclocked to 4.6 ghz. But I usually use 40 fx for a mix. :)

I did some research while waiting to try my DAW on a 8700K this WE. And i reproduced the test just above as i own Soundtoys 5.2
I could fit in 178 tracks with decapitator on my Xeon with a 256 samples buffer
I found a workaround that works for me.
i DEACTIVATE THAT F...ING Network card and I gain 200% everywhere and no more dropouts.

Then i tried it on Reaper which is normally optimized for my config and got 276 tracks before dropouts.

Reaper is definitely more adapted to my machine (multi cpu and multi core) Period. The rest is just talk.
Do i need 276 tracks in Reaper? Do i need 178 tracks in Cubase? Probably not, but still, it's meaningful.

I'll have a shot at my friend's machine to see if it's worth the investment and keep you posted.
In the meantime, a huge thanks to everyone involved. Especially secretworld who put me in the right direction.

First let me say thank you for testing. This is really valuable info Reaper might be coded better for multi core cpus. But still in all for $60 that is really good to know.
Looks like you might have a bad driver for your network card. But who needs a network when you are making music. LOL
Bottom line is this is a real word test you did it your self now as far as you saying weather you would need the extra slots to run 276.
To me this is that you have more slots to run other stuff ( Plugins) before stuff gets drop outs.

These "howtogeek" guys are a riot. Thank you! So many useful things for DAW users there [not]. I actually made an account there once just to troll their stupid MSCE style written posts. "Geek" my arse! These guys are a MS whore house! They would install Windows 10 on a blender if they could! :rofl:Stay away from this website, seriously. Also Tomshardware and Anandtech. They used to be good a decade and more ago, but now they are just a sponsored "quasi-geek" whore house.

Sorry for the OT, just couldn't help it. :(

Well you did buy a server pc!!! It's sample rate is MUCH lower than your old one and the single thread rating is worse, both of which are important for audio production!!

@yabiss. I use a little soft : internet off (google search). One click and internet is off. You can get a PDF called glitch free (google search) for audio optimization. It's for Win7 but the way is the same as Win10.
I removed my GTX 1050TI and no more glitched or dropouts. I just use the intel graphics from the CPU. Now I work better.
