    Actually Reaper runs native in linux yes wine to install programs. Some I only need to copy over the Dll's.
    Neighbor's kid can not fix win 10 that is a coding thing. Also locked code.
    As long as you are happy with Win 10 more power to you. I and some others will stick with Win 7 till the end of it's life.

    Is that based on an LTSB version?

    Which site would that be? I have P9X79 WS and I haven't install any of the drivers for the first time! And I am not sure if I need to?
    Until now with 8.1 and so on; I had to... Also, ASUS doesn't even have set of P9X79 WS drivers for Win 10.
    They claim driver set for Win 8.1 works just fine!!! They didn't even work just fine for Win 8.1 God'sake!

    I ALSO HAVE ANOTHER QUESTION _____________ Although I am not sure if I am out of context of this thread...

    here it goes :)

    I have to ask a stupid question. After activation, do I have to block windows through FireWall? Besides canceling Auto Update...

    I use TinyWall and I already unchecked recommended exception;

    So I did these not because I knew what I was doing but out of paranoia...

    Windows DHCP Client ??
    Windows DNS Client (this may be necessary?)
    Windows Network Discovery ??
    Windows Time Sync (this must be okay?)
    Windows Update (definitely should be unchecked!)

    So please would someone tell me what do I need to do? Block what?

    I downloaded 5 update packages from here, so I assume I need to run them somehow?

    Thank you

    At last consider having Win 8.1 installed. Basicly its the same core as win 10. I have it running for 3 years now and it its way more stable than win7 was on the same hardware. Lately I switched over to a z370 board with a 6core coffee lake cpu and didnt even have to reinstall. If you use classic shell (totally recommended) you get the look and feel of win7.

    I am thinking about giving win 10 lts a try from the 2019 version on (ms roadmap).
    but i'm not sure if it's going to be a joyful thing. As those lts versions are made for cash machines and likes i doubt that i could use the same image ie for gaming (in sandboxie of course).

    I love Win 10. This is twice now with there shitty updates. You can say what you want
    Blorg Win 10 is not ready for prime time. Windows 7 has not happened once.
    Updates on Win 10 are junk. Yes I know turn them off. Still does not fix the underlying problem.

    So things went sideways really fast!
    I did a couple of scripts, blocked this blocked that!

    And I ended up with two flaws...

    The major one is when you start an installing process, it takes a whole minute to start and locks up the folder that you started within and then the stupid "Do you wanna install this" approval box!!! It would take me a year to install my software at that rate!!!

    I am assuming that I broke something while trying to block stuff!

    The second issue is minor but nauseating:

    Icons at right bottom corner of the window are all spread out in the open! No Nesting thing, on the left end you suppose to have an arrow and that opens up the box filled with active applications like Network, safely remove hardware etc.

    So I suppose I will start all over again unless someone comes up with a smarter option... :)

    Strange that its takes a minute, here is immediate even in the very old computer.
    You can Disable UAC
    https://winaero.com/blog/how-to-turn-off-and-disable-uac-in-windows-10/
    Turn off the "always show all icons in the notification area"
    this option is the first in the "select wich icons appear on the taskbar"

    Thank you KidPix, the mentioned problems are resolved with your guidance...

    Now that I have two version LTSBs installations with separate drivers;

    the Trial
    one from Microsoft site and the one that you are helping me with; the Self-activated one

    I can say with confidence that this one is much more sluggish, unresponsive and overall less tasty than the Microsoft Trial one...

    And by the way, UAC is still active in Microsoft Trial...

    I don't know what the problem is for some of you lot to get this working.
    Get the pre activated one from a torrent, disable defender, updates and firewall, then optimise for audio using one of the numerous guides out there.
    It just works properly here. No dramas at all.

    ; Windows Update disable P2P
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\DeliveryOptimization\Config]
    "DODownloadMode"=dword:00000000

    would create this error when I try to install a windows update (msu) file offline?

    Meanwhile, I'm just making music... :yawn:

    No drama, no nothing, W7 just works with *any* processor, no buggy and performance degrading patches beyond 2017 and no internet. It's really hard to understand why would anyone install W10 over working W7, whatever version. LTSB lite looks promising. Thanks for the link. Maybe one day... if we're still alive, OSX sucks worse than W10 and if Linux still doesn't take over. It is actually called "having no other choice". The DAW and plugin developers are our masters. :sad:

    But it always pays off to lag a bit with the OS. Let others beta test... :wink:

    Microsoft giving away free windows 10 copies to their customers. No thanks, i'd like to keep my info private, and not participate in this monetizing scheme.

    On a side note: everyone seems to be talking about distro's of Windows 10... But does anyone know some good distro's of Windows 7? I have heard about a few on this forum, but don't actually know if they are still relevant.
