  3. Dang it, that shit sounds really horrible to me...WAY too compressed and much to LOUD, dangerously so. It's not funny and is no joke to have your ears bashed in unsuspectedly. My player is at a sensible level and then your fucking hammer of a mix comes in badly hurting seriously my ears. Warning to anybody listening with monitors, headphones or earbuds. FUCK!!!!!

Yep won't need to clean my ears out this weekend. I always listen on headphones whilst the other half is watching tv. I took them out before I pressed play, thanks for the warning.

To my ears, this could use an eq boost from about 20Hz to 20kHz. Maybe anything above 0db.

Wtf i always compare my tracks with other tracks.I think i'll re upload the same mix with the same mastering this time as mp3 file. The mix is not the most dynamic out there but definitely not that bad.If it's still that much compressed i think i need to take a break this time bigger. You can download the file and import it in your DAW.WARNING it's the same mix as yesterday.

Heard it... its really loud man... And it starts with this high pitched vocal effect which could shock the unsuspecting listener. I heard with the volume almost down to zero (Thanks to the warning given by @superliquidsunshine) and still it was pretty loud... you sure you checked this against other releases? I tried downloading to analyse it in my DAW but couldn't.

The music itself is nice... I like the trumpet riff... but the synth riff that follows doesn't really match the quirky character of the trumpet... it gets too plain vanilla (both sound and musical phrase)... Also, once the music gets going, it needs a little more variation I think... And because of the severe limiting there's absolutely no breathing space in the mix... everything is too crunched up against one another...this is of course just my humble opinion... keep up the good work!

And analyse your tracks in a loudness meter if possible for your next release. This one really is way too hot!

    OK - my nickel's worth o'piss that's worth a little less than 2 cents.

It's not the loudness per say, though it's loud sounds like -5 LU ~ -6 LU but that's not outside of the range of sausagination for that particular genre. The issue is that it's loud and scooped and peaky bright, which is kind of hard on ear comfort and this is exacerbated for people on headphones .....

If you want to do super loud or really anything above 15LU you have to be really careful about frequency stacking starting at around 2000 Hertz all the way to 8500 Hertz ( this covers male and female hearing - and if you are a man like myself you are probably just guessing at how comfortable a woman is with those frequencies from 6700 to 8500 CPS since your own average frequency sensitivity is a bit lower but.... TMI )

It sounds like you have peaks at 40Hz 120Hz 3000Hz 8000Hz that combined with the choice to compress and limit the track to what is an acceptable LRA for EDM on the high end has somewhat combined to make your track an uncomfortable listening experience. You might be able to fix this in your post-production phase with some pretty aggressive EQ and DESSING stages but it might be better to balance the track a little differently to begin with in the mix stage and allow it take on more loudness in the final phase by mixing it flat with a slight mid range bump - rather then other way around by mixing it with a fanged smiley face.

    Interesting sound though .... :dj:

    Cheers

Thank you @mozee for that explanation... Super helpful...

Well this thread brings up a good point... what's the solution? Don't use earbuds? or instead use open back phones... so
at least some of the pressure can blow out? what's a good solution. ?. sometimes I have loaded other people's projects in my
DAW and their levels have been pretty high... and I had closed back phones on, can just feel the pressure as well as the pain..
it's an excruciating sensation, and I totally get how it would feel for @superliquidsunshine

I won't be using the clamped on ATH M50x's for just listening in Reaper again...
a much looser fitting Sony MDR-7506 is now my go to...or maybe the semi-open
    back Beyerdynamics DT 880's

Anyone use limiters on the master? if so, which one? any other solutions... ?

@SineWave 's suggestion to only use closed back for recording is going to be my maxim from here on...

Maaaan i had two f ucken limiters on the main bus i only wanted to use one but forgot to bypass the other one so yes sh it happens sometimes. But this thread kinda opened my ears i actually don't like the synth and now i am going to work on that "chorus" and maybe something interesting will pop up.I like the sax riff though i'm gonna keep the sax.

I completely agree the choice of sound made it even worse.

Loudness is a bit better (1,xdB LUFS) but still too loud even for YT (replay is lowered by ~ 5,5dB) but the new trumpet is really better than the synth.
