Ever since I bought my Scarlett 18i20 I have problem the the software. It is really unstable and has many issues. One of them is it crashes every time you exit the application and displays this stupid message :

    upload_2018-3-6_17-37-41.png

I am with Windows 7 and Focusrite Control 2.1.7.

I have updated to latest version which is 2.3.3 and now I don't have the message anymore upon exit. It simply wouldn't run anymore after closed once. It gives the message "No Hardware Found". The only way around is to reboot. So I uninstalled and reinstalled 2.1.7.

Anyone having issues with this trash software ?

I'm thinking that's for Version 2 of the Hardware.

I have version 1 BUT I had issues as well and the way I solved it is by downloading a beta driver on focusrite.

Im noticing there is a 2.1.9, Its strange that you have 2.3.3,
No idea whats going on there. did they not beta from 2.1.9 and up?

I would just ignore the beta but just letting you know that this page exists.

    @Voo

Yeah you are right, It is the version 2.1.9 that I actually have installed. I used to have 2.1.7 and had the same problem.
Now with 2.3.3 it is worst...

And yes, it is 2ng generation of the hardware.

Driver updates. You may have a conflict. If it's just from this new software rev, don't read on...

I was bluescreening on WIN 10 every once in a while (LS 56, WIN 10 32G RAM). PT12, Cubase and Reaper all crashed. Being desperate, I finally tried IObit driver and it actually found all sorts of stuff out of date. Since then no problems at all. Sounds like BS but that's the fact jack. I actually bought the Driver Pro around black Friday.

Hope it works out for you cause that stuff sucks in the studio.

I'm under Win7 X64 SP1 Scarlett 18i20 (probably first gen) since several years now, never had any stability problem with the software.
Be sure that the usb cable is connected directly to the computer , no hub.
This is the software version I'm using: (never actualized, if it work dont fix it)

I can send it to you if you will.

    Thanks @Olymoon
I a have 2nd gen and doesn't work with MixControl app. The crash in windows with Control app is a known issue by Focusrite for a long time and every time they release a new version there is something wrong with it.

All my devices are connected directly to the pc (no hub).

I opened a ticket (again) with not much hope. The guys at Focusrite are very kind and polite but not very helpful.

Meanwhile I use version 2.1.9 and never close it. Have to readjust almost every day the balance control on certain outputs as it shifts by itself (one of the other bugs).

The good side is that card sounds great :)

@Voo I have tried with a couple of previous drivers with no luck.
Will keep searching for a solution. Besides all the bugs found in the software, I don't like the interface. The design and functionalities sucks, at least from a software designer/programmer point of view!

    By chance

Change the usb cable. Yes I know it sounds like yeah right a cable is a cable
    BUT
After owning a Eleven Rack I discovered all USB cables are not created equal.
They can go bad and its not a on off thing.
Some work and there are issues with stability.

I would change it if it was mine just to see if there was a difference. You have tried everything else.

    Hey Safran,

I don't know about your problem specifically, but I have had issues before that were resolved by clearing the prefetch files.

    1) Delete the folder C:\Windows\Prefetch (the entire folder, as windows will replace it and renew it on reboot)
    2) Allow extra time as you reboot whilst windows rebuilds the whole folder with brand new prefetch files that are up to date.

I cant say for sure this will fix the issue, but I can say it will certainly do no harm to delete & rebuild that folder

I already asked you, how are you satisfied w/ the card as the 6i6 would be just perfect for my laptop (on paper!), still didn't get it though. Seems that the software is the biggest downer here.. I briefly saw the card in action (my friend has one) and must say I was not impressed with the "software design", even if it was working as it should. Can't help you much, but this is strange:
At the "no hardware found" point, if you open the Device Manager, can you still see the interface drivers listed?

Because this kind of SW usually acts like server and in this case the service might have stopped. Do you use any antivirus with additional firewall? That kind of stuff could block the control SW. Is the control SW "server" service running?

The easyest way to check (IMO) something like this is to try the interface on another comp. Possibly with a different system (Win10?). If you have a laptop or something around the configuration will probably be so different, that it will immediately show whether is your system or something generic.. (I understand it's a known issue, but still.. how many/what config is affected)

    Edit:
On a side note - I was a W7 fanboy. Now I'm just a "whateverworks" fanboy. ATM I'm on W10 (also) because my old interface (that doesn't even have W10 drivers ;)) works on 10, but not on my 7 machine. Seems to me that W10 somehow assigns USB ports "better" ..with W7 you have to be extra careful to install every latest driver/update, from chipset on..

    Hey Matt,

I am very satisfied with the card itself. Great sound and performance and a world of possibilities with all its I/Os.
The problem REALLY lies in the software, and the card is NOT independent from the software as opposed to other cards where you can just ignore the included soft and configure everything from your DAW prefs.

The part about the NO HADWARE CONNECTED is really a bug in the software NOT the hardware because I can see the LEDs move on the card as I play on my external gear. Windows itself sees the hardware connected and also the windows service (Focusrite Control Server) is activated and running. No AV. firewall disabled. No internet connection. My studio PC is offline.

I guess you are right about trying on another PC witch is not a problem as I am an IT guy and have plenty of hardware resources but its the time and hassle that kept me from going there... And then again, even if it works nicely on an other system, it wouldn't solve my issue on my main system which runs fluently with everything else...

Thanks again for the suggestions !

Well , there are a lot of cards that sounds good out there.
I would not recommend to anyone to buy a Focusrite. Mine has such a low headphone output that you cant use correctly professional high impedance open headphones with it, they know this, but they hided this information to sell more..
When I read what you are passing through just because they dont mind about fixing their program for your system...
So for me this enterprise's policy is garbage.

My next interface will be an RME.

Sorry buddy. I really hoped it would help!

when uninstalling/ reinstalling the software did you also make sure :- this went too?
    C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder

Found that on their website along with some other bits of info:-

    https://support.focusrite.com/hc/en...-Windows-7-machine-digital-signature-problem-

also they have CHAT help at the bottom of the page.. might be of use?

This page might be of more use (But notice the contact support link at the bottom)

The place I bought mine from claimed it was generation2, but after zero success I noticed the manufacturing date on the box and installed generation1 and the earlier software. I had also set the computer to Test Mode for Win7 build 7601 as a suggestion for other problems with hardware installations. This seems to avoid some fussy checks that the OS makes that can block some installations. As a result the Scarlett software has worked flawlessly. You can google to Test Mode to find out the details.

    Hi Safran,

I am on W10 using AL9.x & AL10.x with a Scarlett 18i8 G2, latest DRV 2.3.3 and latest ASIO ... No problem at all for months except for strange reasons, moving from AL9.x to AL10.x, Focusrite drv 2.1.x present some glitches / crack sounds ... As admin i have unistalled DRV 2.1.x / reboot and installed 2.3.3 + ASIO and now sounds even better (nothing sure here just my perception of better quality after AL10 + DRV update!). I had same Scarlett 18i8 G1 for 2 years and moved to G2 for better quality sound and less latency without changing anything except DRV since G1 and G2 are completely different / not compatible. So sorry but very stable from my side and pls let me know if you want me to check anything from my PC / current CFG, not even sure if 18i20 device make real difference compare 18i8 in term of stability ?

I have the 6i6 2nd gen and it actually works perfectly on High Sierra. Windows 10 is the only place I have issues but somehow i managed to resolve them but installing latest driver. I noticed ASIO drivers were the only thing that wasnt stable. The way i get it to be stable is by making sure I don't have any other audio programs open while im using fl studio. Uninstalled all other asio drivers and i never have my 6i6 turned on until windows 10 boots up completely. Sounds weird but it works lol. Software design is actually not too bad. As an apple user you probably wont have much issues and I love how they have the iOS app that connects with the interface.
