Agreed - his early stuff is definitely an influence, along with Lonely Island to some degree. We want to be cheeky but also have the songs be legit pieces of music/rap (rather than resembling sketch comedy).

Unrelated - just checked out your soundcloud - wow - your production sounds so good. I could definitely learn a thing or two from listening to your tracks.

That's way rad! Needs a serious music to be wailing! I just wonder why music in Hip-Hop is called beat. Does it mean music is irrelevant and marginal issue in it?

I think it's called a "beat" in hip hop because there generally isn't a melody and doesn't have to have chords either. So you could just rap over a "beat" (which is probably what early spoken word / rhyme was).

 

You have not been born yesterday and I don't want to teach you to suck eggs and you're absolutely better than me. To each his own but please let beat die. Beats make your lovely speeches demoted.
