I have a pair of KRK 8's. I also worked as an engineer at Caribou Ranch, Sunset sound, Ocean Way. So I guess my ears aren't as good as yours man. I have heard them all and my mixes sound just fine. Sure a pair of 8K Genelecs would be great to have, but everyone on this site probably doesn't have 8K laying around. Yamaha HS series and KRK series are very similar, so shhhhhh.....listen.:guru:

I don't know if it's just me , but i find Genelecs and Krks in the same plastic sound category . I was happy with mackie's HR8 (mk1), tried mr8 (mk3) and i saw big difference (downwards). I'd love to compare the new HS8's with the old as well as the yamaha's HS with NS 10. I had a few listening sessions in a big studio, but i don't have my own NS to get used to them. I think mackie and yamaha would be a good choice. I prefer wooden speakers than plastic ones even if they get more stars. In my eyes they are overrated.

Several people here, and many reviewers in various publications, all use the phrase "getting used to...". This means that each loudspeaker has its own characteristics and the user has to decide what he/she likes, or thinks is going to be a more convincing sound for the production in hand. After all, when using electronic instruments and synthesis, there is nothing that is the real sound, it is what you make it. If you have certain kinds of loudspeakers you mix or compose for those and hope that where your work ends up there will be a reasonably similar setup. And you can bet your bottom dollar it won't be. So if you have the chance to be the technician where your work is being played you can tweak EQ and all that to get your original sound (I do that often), but for distribution to the ends of the earth, you won't have that opportunity. What will count, of course is what you have recorded or made not how you recorded or made it. To take a classic example: I have heard performances of The Rite of Spring played in its two piano version, not the full huge orchestral version... and it works magnificently even for that radically different and reduced combination anyway.
Bottom line, I guess: you listen to lots of different loudspeakers, check your wallet, and decide which meets the best of those two constraints. Then become accomplished at using what you have with the best material you can run through them.

I recommend the Tannoy Reveal 802s! I prefer them a bit over the Yamaha HS8s. They have a huge sweet spot and an awesome stereo image.
The KRKs are too coloring and a bit blurry imo, same with Pioneer SDJ line. But despite that all mentioned monitors are great for mixing if you know how to reach your target. It may take months for you to adapt well or you possibly find out they are not working for you, it' s only up to you, nobody else can tell you.
You should also go for Sonarworks Reference 4 speaker plugin which is essential for finally adapting your monitors to your individual room specs.
    Good luck!
