the present time of graphic eqs is amazing. The market is full of mid side eqs right?, but I love theses new "all in one" graphics eqs because you don't need 3 or whatever eqs in your chain. With these babys the control is absolute: mid, side, compression, expansion, sidechaining....and the amazing part:
ALL PROCESSES PER BAND

For me these ladys are the most advanced in this type of stuff and I think fabfilter will not be long for these league(adding dynamic capabities to proQ2?)

There's TDR Nova which is free and really good. And Izotope eqs (Ozone, Neutron).

He just took the image from google.

 

yes they are all great eqs
but none of them meets the same characteristics that the above mentioned in one stance

Pro-MB in the default dynamic phase mode works somewhat more like a D-EQ than a MBC. It's using a cascade of shelves to detect and mix back in compression / expansion which can extend outside of the crossover points with respect to the bandwidth Q. It's not as precise as HOFA's implementation and doesn't allow for very narrow bands or proportional scaling of filters but it does blurr the lines a bit between a MBC and a DEQ.

Isn't that what effects shells do -- let you combine & route a bunch of plugs (like filters & compressors) as a preset, hiding the mess behind an edit panel & leaving just the relevant knobs exposed in the main UI? Stick whatever you want (not just compressors) on as many bands as you like, load with one click?

and TDR Nova GE as mentioned already is another I have and hold in extremely high regards, the free version is bloody excellent, Almost astonishing the quality which can be had for free, Good times that really only get better.
I've got others but those are the most reached for or go to when I want such control, I do not find myself reaching for multiband dynamicEQ processors that often, Mid/Side equalization though is something I've been using for longer than I can remember, The first the bring it ITB with a top-notch implementation which was so simple to use and also was a great decoder for using as I tracked in real-time was Brainworx with the port of their bx_digital. Then when bx_control among other plugins they developed came out, I had my solution to making both recording with mid-side microphone combinations along with use any plugin or chain of plugins and outboard also within a mid-side matrix to encode and process the signals then decode them when they came back in the box with outboard and/or by just simply adding another instance of bx_control to decode.
After Brainworx shone a lot of light onto the area which really wasn't being mined for the potential it offers it pretty soon caught steam and suddenly became standard issue for many other developers to include mid-side or sum/difference processing inside their processing plugins and sometimes the odd effect will feature the option which is always good (Volcano 2 by FabFilter for one great example, Obviously using some additional routing and a few instances of a plugin such as bx_control or Voxengo MSED we are free to create mid-side instances out of almost every processor and effect plugin.

choose a eq which has graphic design you like, at this point the fabfilter is best.
for quality eq why not use hardware? all plugin eq sound like a shit but has different taste(eat tomato last night or cheeses?)
so choosing eq plugin is just a aesthetic activities

 

izotope ozone 4 did MB M/S comp in 2008.

 

Yep, ToneBooster's FlX (spelled flex). 6 bands each separately switchable to stereo, mid, side, left, right. More than 2 dozend curves, graphic compressors, usable as limiter, compressor, expander and gate, global dry-wet amount.
I use this one often.

Nowadays, only imagination (and processing bottleneck) is the limit..
