Don't force yourself to get any songs done. If you do, you won't do it by fun. Music is fun. If you need a break, take it and find some new inspiration by doing anything different. Just do anything totally different you normally never do for a few days or weeks, maybe some sports. This will awake your creativity again.
Another thing that helped me in the past was to modify my room. I bought some mood lighting to create a colorful atmosphere. I don't know whether you already have some or not, but I found out that some colors or color schemes helped me to fancy doing music again.
Sometimes it's very easy, have a try.
    Good luck!

Each case can be different, the reason why you feel that way may be due to many different parameters, from your affective life to your routine etc ... But one thing that always help is changing the angle from where you look at it.
Just step out, don't go to your studio for some days (if you can do this)
Go out, live new situations without thinking about music (I know it's easier to say than do)
After some days of this treatment
Sit peacefully and think about your music and the way you approach it. Take some notes and get back to your studio.

As someone said: "You cant expect things to change if you keep on doing the same thing day after day."

Hey man, don't worry too much about this, it happens to most of us over the years, and usually more than once.

We're all different, but after the first few times this happened to me I realised that in order to avoid it recurring I would have to figure out what was going on and put something in place to avoid it happening again in the future..............its no biggie, basically you just have to learn how to manage yourself and your expectations of yourself.

We all expend massive amounts of time and energy on our music with little or no positive return, that in itself can be exhausting.

And there are so many complex jobs to do, especially if you're doing this alone.

For me I like to keep myself hungry.........I don't do any particular task until I'm sick of it, I stop well before that.......just now I'm kinda keen to fire up a few new plugs and check em, and I kinda want to do a bit songwriting, and I'm itching to get the acoustic out to work on a new song..

But I've done a lot of mixing over the past month and I'll be leaving that now until the hunger for it returns if you get me.

Use this downtime possitively to look and see how you got here, try and figure what you need to keep you inspired, and if you don't tick all the boxes this time around, you can sort it out next time round the loop..........and if all that fails, and you don't know what to do, just do what you can.

Absolutely, it's normal. Everything in this world is normal :)
Some day you will not wake up, and that's normal too :) When you get to some age, suddenly you realize that you can f... like before, but that's normal too and you have Viagra :)

Try to use that abstinence for something other in your life and for some other people around you, be useful for your neighbors, mates or your parents, and you will see how positivism will back to you and you will suddenly feel again need for composing.

Normal?! I should say not! Probably a symptom of some nasty underlying pathology, seek professional help immediately.

    |Hi OP

There's two things you're dealing with right there,

    1. The feeling of the need to be certain which shreds your drive in your production process.

    2. Procrastination that's generated from the no.1, a famous quote about it that truly makes sense even in an artist life is: "
If you want to be certain, you should never get married. You should never change jobs. In fact, you might as well just stay home. Because I don't know anybody who is certain. That need to be certain is just procrastination." This quote right here relates to our "perfectionist" desease, that forces us to think in advance in a "being smart about our next steps" in an exaggerated way and tending to think that "Before i give my best, first i need this kind of equipment, i need to study this bunch of tutorials i haven't watched yet, this playlist of tutorials on youtube, to read these books, to build these thousands of custom layered samples in my custom egocentric personal drum-kit, shooting out between software and hardware synths/processors/plugins to select just the best of the best, moving in the best treated room with the thickest basstraps and etc. and then... and ONLY then, i'll give my best."
It's like you know you have the power of will, heart and drive, but you don't use it just because you need to be certain and in a certain way first. That's actually what kills us inside in such descrete way that we barely realize and we just blame it on "loss of inspiration".

    Just a tip:
Visualize the end form and shape of the song you're about to create. I know it's easier said than done, but diving in randomly hoping that a bunch of tracks will sound good together and it will eventually build something that's called "our creation" will be born as a great result that's gonna satisfy ourselves, but that whole chaotic process will just shred your drive and bring you down.
DO NOT touch your mouse, keys, or guitar until you see your song in your mind, as a whole, from start to finish. Mind is power. Endless source of inspiration. Comes from within.

Hey man. Art inspires art. Read a book, watch a movie, go to the theater or an art exhibition/gallery, wtf play a game, fall in love. Find what arouses your imagination best and use it to your advantage.
As it's been mentioned, there are many methods & tutorials or procedures to learn and make music that will sound correct in any given time, that is on demand. Correct though is not "panacea" for music making or the holy grail of songwriting. It is only when you have a client that is paying for a service and the given goal here is how to make money constructing a product instead of creating art.
Most given tutorials/schools will teach you how to walk the beaten path, that is play instruments, learn music theory, use technology etc. whereas, the artists' calling is the next step which is almost the opposite, how to uniquely stray off the beaten path and come up with something that it's yours. This only means, learn the rules so you can devise your own way to break them. :)
For this to happen sometimes you have to re-invent yourself with all the change that this may bring, and that is what artists do. Constant change and evolution. Sometimes even a step back may constitute as a step forward. Finding your way is not easy but is surely rewarding.
Being a musician/producer/songwriter etc does not necessarily imply you are an artist.
True art comes from imagination, inspiration and creativity, it is a unique blend of mind and soul if you like, it is an inner calling and when the muse speaks to you it is almost a religious experience. And anyone who advises otherwise are meant to stay bland human beings for eternity. The world will keep spinning with or without their input because they gave none of their own anyway, they will remain forever "recyclists".
    Thank you for listening.
    All the best
Ps: History is a great teacher. Just spot the lengths artists have went through to invoke inspiration in all time periods 'till today and you 'll know the possibilities are endless.

This is my source of inspiration (full noise)::rofl:

    PS:
New era doesn't need inspiration unless you impose an obligation on your workflow to think in these frames. Inspiration is required when there're shortages in the ideas.

Sure. Keep strolling and trolling mate. No wonder why you keep trying to articulate a single 8 bar of coolness to no avail, your music doesn't even inspire you to begin with, and your any chance at redeeming yourself with some inspiration is lost due to your denial to learn how to walk the path in order to stray off of it. You will never break the rules if you don't know exactly what the rules are in the first place.
This is sad bro, sad. Remember that chart of "drugs" you posted? I suggest a good dosage of all, starting with pop music:rofl:

You are completely gone man. Ideas come from applying certain knowledge acquired (your copy & paste doesn't count as such), through inspiration, they are mental impressions. What you think of as music is a confined form of construction, not art. Grow the fk up already or i 'll have to ignore thee once again. Politely.

    It's normal.

It's also an opportunity - To look inside.

Working long hours/creativity/passion/(call it what you will) can fill the holes which we all have have.
When it disappears, we are confronted with the emptiness which is life. An opportunity to see the emptiness and come to terms with it.

The music will return. In the rare case that it doesn't, then you are free. Free to find meaning elsewhere.

@foster911 You can keep trolling and naming funny even the proper interpretation and use of language (explanation 1.1) :
    https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/idea
You can keep littering every other thread with nonsensical crap that is only good for taking up server space, because it is what you do. Since the mods tolerate you, i guess i can too. Only i have to take for granted you will never stop replying with the most ignorant answers because this is what trolling is all about.
So now you say you admire a song from the 50s which is decidedly a pop tune for clean white folks and the occassional virgin white maidens. Before that you said you get inspired by pure noise.:trolls:
And if that wasn't enough, just the other day in another thread, you declared that you will obliterate pop and it is your worse enemy. :deep_facepalm:
But of course you will find an even more absurd answer to justify for the ever constant trolling.:wtf:
