First time I hear of 8k playback.
Make it sound like 4k is so old school...

I have noticed that VLC player starts distorting the sound after you go above 65%-70%. You cant hear it on cheaper consumer equipment.

Using 2.2.8 64 bit here. Wondering if I should install this v3 or wait for the v3 64 bit that will surely be out soon.

#It's the best player I've used.

Its more noticeable with newer masters , vs old where you can take the volume further.
Havent tested precisely, though have noticed it so many times that one can come to a conclusion that its not exactly an audiophile player, although i use it 90% of time, for audio and video.

    Here https://nightlies.videolan.org/build/win64/vlc-3.0.0-20180209-0503/

    --------------------------

For video I prefer to use madVR + LAV filters + MPC-BE or MPC-HC
    If got a +- good performance system(CPU/GPU)

If got a high end GPU

If you calibrate the TV/monitor, can use DisplayCAL to create a 3D LUT for madVR

You aren't the first person I've heard say that, but I thought it was the shop trying to flog me the J River Media Centre.

JRMC is a very good player. I tested it two months ago. The crossfeed option is great, makes listening trough headphones more natural.
Though there is something about VLC that is just idk more handy, faster, it just works for most stuff.

I couldn't agree more. I have the jriver now too, but by the time I finish configuring it for the sound I want, I lose interest in listening to what I initially set out to hear! Maybe that's why. VLC just plays anything and to be fair, nothing sounds that bad. Unless of course I play a track I mastered at 3am following a night out with the lads!

We landed a man on the moon, Trump became the US president, Youtube has background video support. Yet VLC can't seem to fix a simple wow/flutter pitch bug. Or did they?

VLC still sucks, I tried an 8k 60fps video downloaded from youtube with jdownloader just to test the performance and it doesn't even play after showing one initial frame.
Use MPC-BE instead, it actually played back the 8k 60fps video smoothly with a few hiccups. It also starts up faster than VLC.
