What are you talking about. Bitwig 1 ? Did you sell many v.1.0 Bitwig copies at Christmas time ? Don't take it on me if you cannot write a correct sentence.
Btw, my clues are there in my posts with names and dates dude. I run a studio for 25+ years and i own more soft than you shake a stick at. Try me.
What makes the audio software world "tick" is very rarely dictated by amateur and home users and mostly is by the professionals. The people asking for cracked Cubase are 99% not professionals. Pros and serious musicians buy their softies. Even the poor ones find a way to do so.
Btw, the majority of the professional studio world (sadly but justified) uses Pro Tools. All other software like Logic, Cubase, Sonar, Reaper, Live, Studio1, Samplitude etc is (unfortunately) secondary, and all combined together don't even make half of what Avid makes from the ProTools line each year.
Example: Yamaha bought Steinberg for about 27 mil. Avid's net income from their audio products/services is about 230-240 mil each year for the last 5 years. Now talk to me again about the people asking for Cubase. Who cares man. Not even R2r care enough lol. They only ask for it because it's lacking from their collection lol, i seriously doubt at least half the ppl asking for it, know what to do with it.

The funny thing is that a few days before Christmas the same year i bought Bitwig with the version name 1.1,1 so yes it was possible to buy a Bitwig v 1 at Christmas time

If you are very familiar with Sonar and developed a speed why you should change. You should only change if you comme to a pain point, some function is missing (and you can't compensate with a plug-in)or anoying bug that slow down your process. At the end of the day the results including speed are counting and not the DAW you are using.

You are missing the point here. The op is a Sonar user, which probably means he likes it too. His question was whether he should continue to use it or switch to something else, and more or less all of us answered that question. I have nothing against you as a person and i respect everyone's opinion. But, the more suitable people to answer the op's question are those who are on the "same boat" as he is or have been in a similar situation in the past.
As for the Cubase thingie, obviously you can't read between the lines, too young perhaps? Because if it is about who's the best in "numbers" i just showed you "everybody should be" using Pro Tools and you keep talking about Cubase being the best in the world and blah blah fanboy stuff. Pro Tools is the number 1 seller in professional audio software and hardware and it's the industry standard and is taught in every major music school. That is the REAL FACT. But you keep saying i don't know the facts... , and by that you mean your opinion as a fact? No problem it's a free world.
Every daw has its ups and downs. You said Cubase is the most advanced daw in the world. In your home perhaps. In the studio i find very limiting having to record a 7 piece band and to have only 4 cue mixes available and Steinberg haven't updated this so many years now. And this is just one of many things that need updating in Cubase. Sure there are ways to overcome this but it's cumbersome. I can make a list of missing stuff from Cubase Pro like the one i mentioned that will read the entire page. Sure Cubase is great, but not perfect.

marvellous ancient example is offline bounce, another is multicore processing, floating point processing, another is audio-random-access (ARA), oversampling etc.. when these things came out, they quickly became automatically-demanded standards, people who are not willing to conform those will be pushed off the playground
highly-regarded skilled engineer may be blazing fast in his own workflow in a daw he's been using for decades, with truly impressive results left behind - but if a newbie learns a "next-gen" creation tools and will base and learn his workflow with different thinking from the very beginning, then he may easily outperform a seasoned veteran,
music, as any other industry, is continuously evolving (maybe not as fast compared to let's say video), and being able to foresee the future is becoming one of most valuable skills, even for a mixing engineer or a musician,

speaking of Sonar X3, ARA is soon to be replaced by ARA2 (supposedly way more effective), ripple editing arrived in newer version, beat detection is flawed, batch/matrix-based export is nonexistent, multiplatform support none (Windows-only), project fuck-up-protection nonexistent (try to manually fix .cwp project file) ..... there are many issues I could find on basically ANY daw nowadays, so it's again a matter of knowing what your needs are and consciously evaluate the pros and cons - undoubtedly the toughest decision is whether to stay with familiar tools or waste time learning something new (while simultaneously stuck with half-finished projects to be done), with outcome never clearly easy to tell if better or not afterall

Sonar is bankrupt! This is a real fact.

 

Time will show.. Remember when Pinnacle bought Steinberg? Back then I was like 'Now we're fucked...' But then they sold it to Yamaha and now you can buy decent audio interfaces and even fully featured controllers like nuage. Things might get better or worse, so, having at last a look at other DAWs just in case is always a good practice.

Cubase a is a good option for replacing sonar 3 since gibson want to end sonar is best to move on to another daw, but you need to find a similar daw to sonar, i think a good option is Cubase or S1

Cakewalk been around since 1987... Its not the only DAW been on the chopping block and come back from it >>> Give it some time... and also @alboz >>> you cannot compare a Windows Only platform DAW sales to DAW's who are on both sides of the fence >>> Win and Mac... Gibson is struggling and has been for some time now... IS THE ONLY REASON for dropped Cakewalk support ;)

Interesting. It doesn't say anywhere in here that the decision was made due to bankruptcy, customer loyalty, or declining sales.
I think a belief that it's due to any reason other than what's been officially stated, then that's an opinion, not a fact.

@Blorg, still... not an unadulterated fact, haha! Still speculation/opinion.
Normally I'd say it makes sense, what Gibson is doing, but nothing they do these days seems to make much sense.
