I would like to know if there’s an alternative plugin working similar to Cuthulu, but with other kinds of chords!?
Or are there any preset packs to feed cuthulu with. I’m thinking about jazz chords for example for laid back stuff!
Any help or info is welcome & appreciated!

Obelisk from Frozen Plain is very nice, and it's only $25.

"Obelisk is a MIDI plugin instrument that harmonizes input MIDI and outputs it to your synths. It is designed to be a flexible way of experimenting with chords and harmonies. Obelisk’s chord picker allows you to pick what harmonies should be applied to each note. As well as this, Obelisk features an optional constraining algorithm that will ensure the harmonies fit your chosen key and scale."

    I bought this awhile ago.

I totally don't understand why each chord has to be triggered from a different MIDI channel.
With this concept, you have to do extra midi routing.
Why not just chord triggering on just 1 MIDI channel ?
Maybe i am a dumbass and am i totally missing the point of how different midi channels for different chords would be handy.
Someone who can chime in ?

    Warm Regards.

    let's say you're producing a song in C Minor.
set the first midi channel to C and select Minor for the scale.

in most cases you'll be using the same kind of chords (Minor Thirds for example) through most of your songs

but let's say you want a breakdown section going into the 5th of the scale but you want the chords to be fuller/take up more of the spectrum.
yet can set the second midi channel to G Minor (the 5th in this case) and pick a different chord type, say Minor 7ths for example.
Alt. you can also program inversions of your chords to add some juice to your compositions.

Paired up with some basic music theory (online sources are more than enough) it can help you emulate a lot of genres/styles.
It can also help from switching to chord playing to soloing without being worried about being off key.

@Retrolize77 hi my friend  some thoughts :

Cuthulu is great for what it is,here is a good demonstration of it with David from Icon,i know him since his Musicians Institute days  :

I don't know what daw/s you are into, but if you're on logic pro x use the chord trigger midi plugin,if in Reason use the chords & scales player device,if in Ableton under midi effects there is the Chord & even has a preset called jazz for...this Chord midi plugin will give you one chord shots...

At the end learn about chord progressions & music improvisation & play play play on your keyboard :keys:

hope this info helps you

Improvisator is the best for complex chord patters but it's only 32 bit.

    MixedInKey do a couple:

Odesi generates chords, melody, bassline and drums and is a standalone app from which you export a midi file into your DAW.

Captain is a new vst which looks promising. Mac only at the moment.

    Hi brother,
always appreciated what u bring to the table!!
As I’m still in learning /setup/playingaround mode, all the good advice are really helpful. I play around with cuthulu actually, and it’s really fun, the emphasize just seems a bit too much on major chords, but I’m still playing around, need more depth & inside maybe, useful tool & creative inspiration it def is!
My main man & producer known in the beat tape scene (peep him, laid back & funky
    )
, he was curious if there’s a midi Chorder providing jazz-chords instead of classical / EDM chords.
Greetings to you spyfx, have a nice weekend

Edit: I’m using studio one, been on Cubase since my first Atari st early 90‘s, and s1 got a similar workflow. The Chorder in S1 is quite limited, just a few basic chords, not satisfying

It is one channel, or more if you want to. You can trigger multiple chords through one MIDI channel, or use multiple channels to get more complex. You can also change chords in a channel with key switches (like Kontakt) if you want to, otherwise it's based on the single note you input to it. Watch their video for a demo. It's impressive. The manual is up on their site too.

Those toys just cause you to fend off and escape from the underlying realities and stark difficulties of becoming a real musician. No magic in them. Your choice!
