A good contest for the people who want to enter the songwriting territory

    A songwriting approach

I provided this context (in the key of G) as a contest. Hum a short 1-minute melody or sing lyrics over it, record and post it. No need to add drums or even extend it.

I think we can learn a lot from this thread. Thank you so much. I know you'd understand my intention.:mates:

Song can be created from any point. From a simple melody, etc but this thread is for people who know how to make electronic track (not me, OK? :bleh:) but want to add some vocals to it to glorify it more. This is kinda a top-down approach.

But I think below song is a bottom-up one that the music accompanies the vocal (first the lyrics and melody been created then converted to a whole song):

This song has the same situation (bottom-up). This approach is a bit harder as an start point because shaping a full song around a single melody needs years of songwriting experiences::dunno:

Don't you wonder why on AZ you can not find comprehensive and serious songwriting video courses? Because mainstream is totally based on songs and they never tend to reveal the secrets behind the scenes like other industries.

he used to start threads like this with a snippet .. then challenge everyone to finish the song...

Hey my dear friend. I really love you. He was a legend like you.

It was in the past. Now every thing has changed. Please put aside those qualms and look at this positively. I don't want anyone to complete anything. I just want to practice songwriting with each other, a thing that is a natural path for shifting from experimental electronic toward actual songwriting. Also this thread is not mine and belongs to all contributors who share their knowledge if they want.:mates:

    PS:
AZ is full of mixing and mastering tips, soloing and fingering techniques, etc. but the only thing you can not find is making a actual song from the scratch when the inspiration starts to flow. If you'd notice of some members talking about their natural talent and sentencing others to death and untalentedness, you'd find out that they know how to make songs (not music specifically). They brag about themselves excessively and never teach others even a bit of their knowledge. I hope this thread be a valuable resource for the music lovers who want to make real music and songs.

    A sing-along :)

Now I got one for you. Create your own story. It's like CYOA, but I take your video, add some pictures, and you make up a story that ties everything together. Ready? Let's do it!

    > Foster

I wrote a lead vocal melody line...
To me your file sound like an 'Intro' and a 'Verse'... so I just wrote a Verse 1 & 2
Tomorrow I will try to record with a guitar and post it on your @email (if you will send me one). :disco:

@Herr Durr @foster911 I actually took the clip to BIAB after figuring out its tempo and time based in Reaper. But 5/4 requires more setting to do there. For anything alike in the future, I'll probably be with midi programming (if legends says it's legit, lol) Good to see and learn something on how people attempt the contest with live instruments.

off, free counterpointing (but especially the syncopation in fourth/florid ones) works for me as a starting point/idea generator

result is generally useless(can't be used directly) but can generate another ideas or/and motives or/and phrases, and makes good for the brain too ... needs some thinking

ps. in EDM it's working differently than in the classical music >> https://www.dancemusicproduction.com/products/fundamental-music-theory-counterpoint

  15. I would call it 11/8 as I just counted the beats until the phrase repeated itself. I put the accent on 3, 7 and 10.

This was so much fun! And if you do not mind, or if you do not want to kill me with the silence of contempt [:)], I'll change, in the next step, the little flute for one lyrics. Which takes a little longer, for sure.

I didn't noticed that :like: I nudge the very first beat from the clip as the 5th beats before started to count from beat 2. I'm not sure if it's right. Not usual time signature for me.
