Been getting lots of crashes and inability to render video in Live. I'm on windows 7. Was running ver.9.7.1 but I just updated to 9.7.5 however I'm still having the same issues. Any tips for getting videos to run smoother?

It’s the same with Cubase & Protools. All are audio-softwares, favouring audio tasks over video.
Common videocodecs like H264 are very CPU intensive. On DAWs, video comes second, often resulting in problems..

The solution is to use another -less CPU intensive- codec, like Apple ProRes proxy, Avid DNxHD or PhotoJPEG, or, at least encode video with a keyframe on every frame. I don’t know if Ableton supports the Avid or Apple codec, but it does support PhotoJPEG.

These codecs are called ‘intermediate codecs’ - used when working on stuff. When done, export the audiotrack and use software to transcode it to H264/5 with AAC audio, optimised for streaming & playback.
