Hi @ all i love this one when i create a Patch and saveas in USER where in my Windows folders is it saved ? in the User xml file ? can i see the single Patch in any folder ? Thank you in advance
To figure that out, I often name those sounds something like "FIND ME, PLEASE" and then I search for the file (with Everything - so, it's not a real search). You just never know where the developer and Windows like to put it.
One guy from gearslutz said that he has original hardware synth. He compared and said something like this: Some sounds are identical without differences to be noticed, some sounds/presets are very close, so they can be tweaked by DX7 V knobs or/and some small equalization. So, forget about this nuances. If it sounds ok - it's ok, maybe original hardware will be worse in your mix, but maybe not. If it is 99% close to hardware, who of listeners care about this 1%? Music is music, well done, well performed, well recorded, well arranged, well mixed, well edited/engineered, well mastered, but not everything should be 1:1 to hardware. All these small nuances or even huge differences are the case of taste. Don't worry. Nobody compares "4K HD with with super quality bluray films graphics on modern TVsets" with "VHS with recorded old films of 60's and to be watched on broken-tube-TVset". We have all plugins that all musicians and engineers dreamed about them and their quality 15+ years ago (up to 40's, 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's). The whole high quality studio on one PC. Nuances differs from one gear unit to same another one, that's why we have different hundreds of 1176 emulations, because all these gear units may differ. But years later all these smallest nuances will be emulated too closer not like nowadays. Oooh, ---- pro engineers still can't differentiate blind tests. Even plugins of 5+ years ago. We live in a better digital world that may behave like "almost analog" or beyond or "perfectly clean". WHO CARES, mostly. Good music and good sound is the key. Even done with digital clean tools only. Just don't work with mp3 lossy, don't allow aliasing, steep curves, quantization noise and don't mix bad, so it is a good start point))
It interests me because I'm one of those rare freaks who know how to program an FM synth and I love it. Yet, I haven't been able to put my hands on a Yamaha FS1R. That's like the ultimate FM synth aside from Kawai K5000. I'd really like to put my hands on that thing. But maybe DX-7V will do for the time-being. FM-8 is certainly not it, but it's interesting. I just dislike everything NI makes, too. Their synths have a certain sound I don't like and it sticks out in a mix in a bad way too much. It's hard to get anything properly with NI synths, aside from Kontakt. That is, in my case - when mixing both hardware and software. Interestingly, Arturia synths seem to be better in that regard for me, but the sound is off by a lot for me, for most of the synths, except the newer ones.
Woody compared real DX7 with Dexed and Arturia DX7V, but DX7V was very poor: After reading comments, Woody released second compared: This time DX7V did very well.
yes, arturia dx7v only has limited fm mod algorithm(why not fm8?), and doesnt has hardware fm synth sound quality(why not uvi?), why this synth can existing in the market? probably especially developed for those people who love something outdated, like those vintage hardware effect emulater stupid
Yamaha DX200 A DX7 third generation circuit board in a tin. Maybe $200-$250 on ebay. FS1R is 8 operator FM. Why no 8 operator VST? WTF knows, but it'd shine.
@FairLighT I have seen this revew and the second video is very conclusive. This Woody guy makes cool videos. @SineWave I have all three, the original hardware, DEXED and DX7 V. My favorite is DEXED. It is identical to the real thing and maybe a little better sounding (less noisy). DX7 V is very very close but you need to make sure you set the velocity to "Full" in order to get the real hardware sound. Also, DX7 V is is the best for editing/programing IMHO. In general I like Arturia products but the graphics sometimes get buggy (with V6) Last edited: Jan 7, 2018
