I have some songs should sing by a young lady because of the lyrics and my vocalist friend is over 30. So, I just want to have softer vocals. My friend will try her best to imitiate a young voice. My question is how can I achieve such a sound at mixing process?

Is there any tricks for it?

I have an idea about that. For example the song is 80 bpm. What if the vocalist record it as if it's 70 bpm and then I just make it 80? Is it the same effect with transpose it?

 

If you just change the tempo of a recording with offline processing you will alter the formants and the pitch.

With voice processing plugins/algoritms you can alter pitch and/or formants. Meaning you can record in original tempo and just alter the formants a bit (if you change it a lot you will get the mickey-mouse-effect).

But: Younger voices don't have only higher formants, they are sounding smoother too! And this you can't change with pitch or formant shifting.

So, just try formant shifting and see if it turns the "old" lady into a teen, or look for a female teen to record.
